Ignition switch issue

We have an '86 Suburban 6.2L diesel. I turn the key and get nothing. No gauges, glow plugs or radio. Interior lights, horn etc. all work. I've checked the fuses and the gearshift.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

check all your grounds. has the car been sitting long? try using a new battery.

is there an audible click when you turn the ignition?

It is used daily. No clicks. It started to turn over, stopped and then "zip".

Could be a bad ignition switch. The electrical part, not the part you put the key in. Try jiggling the key around while in the "On" position and see if you get any flickering of dash lights. If it does then you know for sure it's the switch.

Thanks. I did try that, both in park and neutral. Nothing on the in-dash volt meter or glow plug light.
From the input I'm getting, The checks I've done so far, were the right ones to do.
I do thank you all for your ideas. Keep'em coming please.

Try moving the shifter lever and see if that does anything.

Do the interior lights (that still work) require the ignition switch to be "on" or in "accessory"?
If "no," I'd start with the ignition switch itself.

If "yes," then I have no clue.

G/L.

Yes they do. "The Beast" has no "accessory" position. (no need on the diesel).
And this brings me to my next query.
How is that switch replaced???
