I drove a brand new Jeep Wrangler 4 door 6 speed manual yesterday and absolutely hated it. Love the looks though.

That is true, although he's been on his six speed set up for a while. But the transmission failure really doesnt have much to do with the fluid, I think. I'm not exactly sure what it was. I forgot now. If my transmission goes, I will no longer have a car
I need this to last me at least another year, even better would be two

The problem was the lack of fluid getting to the 3rd gear clutch packs.

573 to the wheels on a stalled, stock 4L60e with a shift kit and lots of 1/4 mile passes. It's still going strong.

And Ken is right. My post above specifically mentioned 5AT Honda/Acura trannies. The 4AT Honda trannies from the 90's were bulletproof.
99 TL w/ 4-Speed Auto. I went through 4 of them. The 5th was starting to flare when i got rid of the piece of crap.

Yep, which is why I said basically any auto (4 or 5 speed) hooked up to a J series, F or H series.

The older Honda automatics attached to the A, B, C, D and G series motors were just fine.

My friend with a '03 TL-S had his transmission fluid flushed last week. He's never had any problems with the transmission. I think the flush was just part of the routine maintenance schedule.

This morning his transmission blew. Downshift from 5th to 2nd, etc.

How typical. You perform maintenance (at an Acura dealership) after 7 years of trouble-free use and THEN it decides to blow.

My mothers Escape had this recall too. It was for the tranny cooler, not the tranny itself. Just as an FYI

afaik you're not supposed to do a flush. Just a drain/fill 3x3.

Anyways, was considering my next car be a MT. Someone should make a thread about the worst manual transmissions/clutches.

ohh

I'll take back my earlier comment then.

But I dont think my problem has to do with third gear, maybe.

A flush is what the dealership recommended.

My sister-in-law has a '01 Civic EX which had been through a couple transmissions in under 150k miles. I did a little research last time it was slipping and it turns out it's pretty common.

Really? I've heard from people on the 2nd gen CL forum that Honda apparently recommends a 3x3.

Honda refers to the 3 x 3 drain-and-fill as a "flush" in the TSBs, in which Honda also advises against using machine-assisted "flushing" of the transmission.
Honda's terminology may be a little confusing without reading the TSB.

That's confusing. I've always considered a flush to be just that, a machine-assisted flushing of the tranny. A 3x3 is a drain, fill, run it through all the gears, then repeat two more times. Hence the 3x3?

They shouldn't have called it a flush, many people don't know better than to not allow a "transmission flush" and may think it's a good thing after noticing improvement and ask for it on their next cars, and some people will absolutely refuse to get a "transmission flush"
