Like many Acurazine members, I often think about the S2000 as my next car. I'e seen a number of folks on the forum make that transition.

But I've also heard some members mention that they don't have that car anymore. I'm curious about what makes someone get rid of such a sexy car. I mean, I know they are small inside, and certainly not as comfy as a CL, but they sure seem sweet.

So those of you who have owned one of these cars - what's the downside?

You will understand why if the s2k is ur only car.

 

it's more a fun, weekend, car. there's no way i could live with one as a DD because the ride is too solid and it's just not practical for everyday use.

 

I thought my s2k was fine for a daily driver. It wasn't the most practical, but that never really bothered me. The trunk was sufficient for groceries and stuff. The ride is definitely harsh, but I'm no grandmother...a plush ride is not really something I look for.

Anyway, I got rid of mine because Phoenix is a horrible city to drive in. The roads are flat, wide, and straight, and the majority of time behind the wheel is spent at stoplights. I felt like I had to drive an hour outside of the city to find a place where I could actually enjoy driving. Gunning the engine from stoplight to stoplight in a city built on a grid is not very much fun. So I sold mine and got a Wrangler.

It was a fantastic car and I would love to own one again someday, once I get out of the city. I'd imagine it would be fantastically fun to drive on some narrow, winding back roads somewhere... Portland, Oregon perhaps?

 

Im sure it depends alot on what kind of daily commute you have and whether or not you can get away with having such little space in a car.

Personally, I could daily one no prob, but I'm single with no kids, have a 3 mile one-way commute in the morning and afternoon, and dont use my car for any legitimate purpose other than hauling my butt around/general amusment. If I was fighting 25 miles of Los Angeles gridlock every day to and from work, it would probably get old quick unless you were unusually hard-core about it.

 

I have to admit, we do have some fantastic back-road bombing around here.

 

Its kinda like wanting a girlfriend who is a lady on the street but a whore in the bedroom.

The S2k is a whore at all time. Which is great but after awhile your back starts to hurt.

I DD mine all year. In less than an year I've racked up 16000 miles, and by the time its a year old, I reckon it'll be at 20k. I just drove 10 hours in it from KY to NJ yesterday.

It takes a special kind of enthusiast to drive an S2000, and an even more unique one to drive an S2000 everyday as a DD. My advice to you would be to drive one, and see how YOU like the car, and go from there. I can assure you that there are PLENTY of people who DD their S2000s.

I think the biggest issue with driving an S2000 is the height/weight of the driver. I'm only 5'5", and the S2k fits like a glove. My buddy who's 5'10 also has no problem driving it. But I know folks who have a "thick" build who have a tough time sitting in the car.

 

One word: Priorities.

I've daily driven the S for nearly two years now and my only complaint is having two sets of wheels/tires. Not that I mind it much, but I much prefer having one set of wheels/tires for any car.

I'd only get rid of the car if I was planning to start a family or have financial issues.

 

I don't know about the S2K, but I'm sure the Miata isn't too far off..... The miata is a B%)( as a daily driver, you get close to no respect down here (every1 drives SUVs n Pickups), it really depends on where you live, the person w/ the miata lives in the city, and it's not really fun unless you're on the highway or "back-road bombing" which there really isn't much here close to Houston. Surprisingly I'm 6'2 and comfortably went "back-road bombing" in a miata (booooy that was fun, i'm a n00b @ teh 6spd but w/e), but on the drive back we were stuck in the oh so wonderful I-10 traffic (it was midnight, yet we had bumper to bumper traffic that'd make you get out and walk), and then stuck on the streets for awhile. So to say I got the whole roadster expierience from highs-lows, I'd say hell no to it being a DD, but then again some people don't understand why i want a coupe as a DD when i'm 6'2, but I dont understand people who drive Suburbans, Escalades etc. as DD's (and they don't have a big family), it's all based upon what you're liking is, I like coupes for some ungodly reason and always will, maybe you like roadsters, everyone is diff. Prolly allot of CL-S guys don't like Roadsters as DD's which is why they ended up ditchin em (I know i sure as hell wouldn't want one except for times like now, summer vacation biiiaaatttchhh).

 

Had one. Sold it for an m5. Traded my FD for another one to use as a daily driver. Power is kinda weak but its good on gas and handles fairly well. Think I'll keep my current one for a beater for awhile.

If you have to haul anything it's useless. Other than that & the fact that I feel like a midget in it & it has no tq, it's a great DD.

 

at one point, i was thinking of a C5 Z06. but now that 91 gas is not ever going to drop under $3.50 here, i would strongly consider the S2000. that or the E46 M3 which is probably first in my line.

I'm going to ditch my '05 TL sometime this summer and pick up an S2000. Been lusting over one for a while now. I just cant decide which color

 

Carrying capacity isn't an issue, it's just a commuter car. I think a vette would make a better DD, but of course, that's another $15K or so (assuming a 1-2 year old car).

I want sporty, with decent gas mileage, which is how I arrived at the S2K, but it doesn't sound like it would be much fun to sit in a traffic jam in....

can it hold a set of golf clubs in the trunk?

FYI, I think I got around 15-17 mpg in my s2k.

 

I like the new blue (the one the Shoofin got).... but that a new (2006 ??) color..

Black, Yellow and Red are nice too...

 

I couldn't imagine having an S2K as a daily driver.

 

Me neither... but it would be nice to have for the next 4 months up here in the northeast

 

You guys have convinced me that as sexy as the S2K is, it's probably not the way to go....

Once again I have concluded that the best car is the one I have! Maybve I'll get a bike for summertime fun....

Never tried that...I do Skyline Blvd, Germantown, Cornelius Pass, mostly westside/NW Portland stuff.

 

Seriously am considering dumping the 06 TSX for an 06+ S2k before too long as well. Im wrestling with color options too. Maybe they will offer Moonrock in the US for 08

had a baby...but had the TL already so felt no need to get rid of toy car...then got t boned...and have been heartbroken since...will definitely consider another one in the near future though...not bad for a DD if you drive locally and not for longer than about one hour...then you'll start feeling it. UNless your a really small person and fit perfectly in the cockpit...in that case I dont know how uncomfortable it would be.

 

The S2000 is a fun little car to drive much like the Miata. However, it's way too small for me and not practical for daily driving. The S2000 is also slow in terms of HP and lack serious TQ unless you hike it up to 9000 RPM. Living here in NJ, with a ton of bad drivers, small cars like that is just a bad idea to have.

 

I'd take the yellow S2000. It stands out and the S2000 yellow is one of the best yellow out there. Blue is nice but Yellow just screams fun! And S2000 is all about fun!

 

I agree with boosted jack...i had a spa yellow pearl and i don't like a lot of cars in yellow, but this is an exception (along with any ferrari, any SLK...and i think thats about it...lol) The yellow s2k is deifnitely all about the fun! Plus you can't miss it...you'll stand out in a sea of silvers blacks and whites...

 

Me neither, def a weekend car. Here in SE Michigan, much like BEET's comments, there aren't too many lonely, windy roads to let'r rip.

Honestly (laughter forthcoming), the only reason I don't already own one is because it doesn't have side curtain airbags like the Boxter. It sounds trite, but there are too many fucking idiots on the road and I prefer having the extra protection, especially in a car that sits so low.

 

no sidemarkers? Who would remove them? They are so functional and look the part...but it does look kinda clean without it...

 

When i was on my S2k kick, i wanted the blue.

There's a pic online on s2ki that shows an S carrying 2 golf bags.

I've personally fit a microwave and assorted crap in mine that ranges from a shovel to a couple of 5 gallon buckets of paint to groceries to a weeks worth of luggage for two.

With some creativity, you'd be surprised at how much you can fit in an S2000! Not to mention that there are folks who have replaced the spare tire and tools with a can of sealant which has allowed them to store even more.
