Whose car will bite the dust first?
Whose car will bite the dust first?
Well, I have a '99 TL that has shown typical tranny problems for a few years now. The tranny fluid has always remained nice and pink, the forward gears feel 95% fine most of the time, but reverse is showing MAJOR symptoms of getting ready to meet at the pearly gates. It's only a matter of time......
In more recent news, Dan's '04 TSX has been burning through oil at an unusually high rate. The word from the shop today was that he'd burned through some more oil (since topping it last week), and it has the consistency of dark, sticky, sludge. They think it could be the PCV valve, however, the car hasn't thrown any codes.
So the bet is on:
Whose car will die first? Will my tranny outlast his engine, or will my tranny take a dump while his engine lives on?

Time for a car version of the dead pool?
How many miles on the TSX? Any chance of it getting covered under warranty?
Hopefully they both continue to run long and trouble free lives allowing you both to buy all the photo gear you both desire.

The TSX has ~120,000 kms.
And extra info to help with the dead-poll.
The TSX is currently running through 5 litres of oil before the next oil change, and the TL takes about 5 seconds to shift into Reserve and makes a sound and vibration like the car's been hit with a bomb.

its a horse a piece. What ever is causing the tsx to burn oil may turn into a big issue real quick? But my guess is on the TL trans going first.
Of course you could always quit using reverse

I bet you it's just Dan's oversized foot always putting down on the gas to hit V-TEc all the time, that's burning his oil.

It sounds like the TL tranny will give up the ghost before the TSX-- hopefully it's a minor PCV valve issue causing the excessive oil consumption.
SS please tell me that either of your cars are not maintained Sterne Acura because they are TOOLS. And FWIW, my old Civic burned through a quart a week and never died, same as my friend accord, TSX FTW.

This poll rules!
I'm thinkin' Street Spirit's tranny is going to go first.
Burning oil is nothing as long as you keep toping it off.
BTW anyone know how Sauceman's car is holding up? Does it even exist anymore? Haha!

That's an easy one, the TL. My old Integra had 160,000 miles on it and burned more than a quart every month, and it went from San Jose to LA (300+ miles/480+ km) and back averaging 75mph and A/C blasting without a single complaint, along with delivering great mileage.
The TL tranny on the other hand.... if you look at it in a funny way it'll blow up on ya. If you said the TSX burns 5 liters in what I'm assuming 3,000 miles (whatever that is in km) then that is serious, my money is on the TSX then. Have you gotten a leakdown test done yet?
Moral of the story.... don't buy an Acura.

I've used mobil one since my first oil change and am happily going on 57,000 miles...
