Where are the sport wagon fans!? I am mad...
Now, as a sport wagon fan, this really made me angry! I was reading the Edmunds.com site last night, and saw the new C-Class sport wagon. It's absolutely beautiful! However, they stated clearly that it was NOT heading for the US! I supposed MB did not want it to take any sales from their SUV's. Also, I guess the previous C-Class wagons did not sell so well in the States.
Personally, I want to have only the occasional ability to haul bigger items so a wagon would work just great for me. A good sport wagon would be so much better than an SUV in terms of handling and fuel economy. I have no interest in buying a big SUV but it seems like there are just so few choices out there!
Since I want a premium brand, apart from the usual suspects (BMW and Audi), what are the other choices? I just can't think of any!!! (Subaru may make good wagons but they are not luxurious enough...) Maybe the Infiniti EX would save the day???
Sport wagon fans, please speak up!!!

I like the S4 Avant. But as you can imagine wagons aren't as hot here as they are in Europe. Would love to see a RS4 Avant out here. They even have M5 Wagons if I'm not mistaken.

There is also the Jaguar X-Type and Saab 9-3. I would just get a 328i wagon. Sport wagons became dead when the SUV craze started. BTW if you looked at the 3-series wagon sales compared to overall 3-series sales, you would know why almost no one makes premium wagons anymore. Only 2% of all 3-series sales this year has been for wagon.

I know, I wish that sport wagons were more popular here! They are very popular in Europe - I guess the Europeans understand that bigger is not necessarily better over there!
I totally forgot about the Jag X-type but I don't think that I would touch that thing... poor reliability, I heard. Then the Saab 9-3 wagon surely looks good, but when I sat in my friend's 9-3, I found that the interior was not quite up to par with other premium brands at all.
The new A4 (B8) is HOT HOT HOT! I hope that the wagon will look just as hot and will come over to the States.

The only wagons I like are the new C-class wagons and that little Volvo wagon, S50 or whatever it is.
The Mazda 6 is also a good one.
I just don't like the looks of wagons in general, they remind me of hearses.

Personally, I'm hoping hatchbacks come back in fashion - they would give me all the storage I would ever need.

I'd much rather have a Volvo V70R over a XC90 if I didn't need room for 7 (which I don't right now thank god).
But, most Americans with their fat asses and their fat assed kids wouldn't fit in a normal wagon.
These days Americans want three rows and captains chairs for little Jimmy and Tiffani with LCDs and all sorts of other crazy shit.
I'd rather own something that I'd enjoy driving and make the compromise of a little extra weight of a wagon over the sedan.

I think the Volvo V70 would have been a good option too, if the interior were nicer and if the reliability were much better!!! Sigh...
The MB R Class is nice, but it's HUGE! It's like a boat... LOL Oh, and I am not so sure about the MB reliability either...
Mazda 3 hatchback is a great car, it's just a little too small for me. The Mazda 6 wagon is very nice looking but I would prefer something a bit more luxurious...
See, there are not many options...

phile: the Mazda 6 is dead as of end of 07 model year. so what the dealers got is all they got cause the 07 production year completed.
if you got about 80-90 grand price range go with a E63 AMG wagon 507 hp beast. and your talking sub 13 second 1/4 time.

Sport wagons are the shiznit. I want a 540 wagon for my next car. Find a nice wrecked M5 and drop the drive train in and have the ultimate BMW. Fast, handles well and can haul loads of cargo.
Unfortunately like has been said, Americans prefer SUV's to wagons. A guy from BMW once told me that a 540 wagon sold less per year than Z8s did. I was actually shocked to see an E55 wagon for sale the other day on some website. Apparently they were available but had to be special ordered.

I was driven around this is my youth. My mother once slammed on the brakes to talk to a neighbor and the bench seat in the back unlatched and 4-5 children went flying forward...

There's more to a car than just the way it looks.
