Where do I buy an engine??

Just as the title says. I am looking for a Chevy small block V8 and am wondering if anyone would know of a good place to get them. Only thing is is has to be carbureted.

Probably from GM directly. They do sell/ship crate motors, but I am not sure on carburated engines anymore. Try looking at restoration car companies.

Yeah, I was thinking about that as a back-up plan. I would preferably like to get a new one if possible.

I would love to have one of those, but it won't fit. The biggest that I can go is a small block. So, 383 stroker??!!

Here's my vote:

12498772 - GM Performance ZZ383, 383cid/425hp Performance Crate Engine

All the details here:

You could just swap the crank and rods and make it a 396 stroker

mmm torque

What are you looking to do with it?

What kind of money do you have to spend

how bad of a motor do you want?

Dude, check the LS1 forums. There are guys in there with old school Camaros and Novas with carbed LS1's in the cars making crazy power. This one guy purchased the motor off a wrecked camaro, he got the carb kit and got a 402 stroker kit, with a mil street cam. Let me tell you, how his 69 Camaro was running 10's with ease.

It will be going in a 1974 Nissan 260 project that I just bought.
I would like to spend less than $4g's on the motor.
I would like something with balls, but it doesn't have to be crazy horsepower big-the car it is going into weighs less than 2000lbs.

Here's a good board for you to start with for this project:

http://forums.hybridz.org/forumdisplay.php?f=58

This is a place in San Antonio that you can find used LT-1'S & LS-1's as well as trannies.

http://www.hpsalvage.com/

Look in the project car section an you'll see there is a guy who did an LS-1 swap in a 240z

If it were me, I'd go with a fuel injected LS-1 over a carbed motor for the 240.

There are many sources but here is one:

http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...61&cgrfnbr=947

A little higher in price than what you mentioned but has a warranty and is ready to drop in and go:

Thanks for the info. I have already been around those boards-they are quite helpful.
I want to do a carbed engine so that I don't have to deal with all of the dang electronics-just a nice simple engine-that I can put one hell of a blower on
