I agree totally with this concept of a "sleeper"...it HAS to be very unassuming and it's name or history should NOT be associated with speed or racing. It REALLY NEEDS to be completely factory stock(in my opinion).
In that same vein, how about the 3rd generation Toyota Rav-4 (especially a lightweight base model) with V6? It's only about a half to 3/4 sec slower than the Forester, but it's a freaking Rav-4...who would think it can hang with you from stoplight to stoplight?
Also, the Toyota Avalon, a whale of a car that runs to 60 in about 6.2 secs.
Or maybe a mid-to late 90s Buick Roadmaster sedan (with vinyl top and wire spoke hubcaps) or wagon (with woodgrain side panels) with the Impalas SS drivetrain (260hp V8)...that was a monster

I don't know if you'd call the new Toyota Tundra a "sleeper"...cuz it looks like a beast to begin with... but for a truck, I've read magazines/links that claimed 0-60 in 5.9 seconds... STOCK! Remember, trucks aren't meant to be fast, but haul... just imagine what the possibilities are...

In my opinion, with all of the advertising hype about how fast the 5.7L is now, I would doubt that it would be considered a sleeper...everyone knows it's fast. Maybe in the next 5 to 7 years people will look back at it like we are doing now and remark about how fast it used to be!

I doubt some people know my Accord does sub-6 second 0-60 and mid to low 14's stock. I guess that's why no one wants to race me.

that doesn't really make sense... if people don't wanna race you because they know... then it's not a sleeper

Most people knew the Acura CL-S I had was pretty fast so I had G35's, WRX's and comparable cars challenging me all the time in that car, but they don't figure an Accord is fast because of the whole an Accord is just a family car association. Honestly I had no idea they were either until I did some research online looking for a new car. Plus I don't ever seek out races; i.e. rev my engine, beep three times or pace a car on the highway to see if they'll take off. I usually just react if someone else does those things. Used to happen all the time in the Acura but never in the Honda. Well once it happened, with a new Civic Si sedan and I killed him from a stop light, but other than that I get nothing.
I don't know, I wouldn't consider an Accord a sleeper either. I mean, sure they are somewhat fleet-footed, but they also have the "import tuner" stigma associated with them...any one of them could be running nitrous or a small turbo so someone would be suspicious. What if you pulled up next to Grandma in that Roadmaster I mentioned earlier or one of those supercharged Buick Reagal GS sedans another poster mentioned earlier? If that car keeps pace with you from stoplight to stoplight, or even outruns you....that is a sleeper. Who would even look over to adknowledge a Roadmaster or defunct Regal in the next lane?
