MB S65 with rentech upgrade, does 11's or lower after tuning. 0-60 in less than 4.4 seconds. weights over 4000 pounds and has more features than any car on the planet.

I dont think an AMG, M, or S can ever be sleeper. Its pretty obvious these cars will obliterate the average ricer. That being said, in the stock world, id say the older C55s. They looked close enough to the regular C-class but obviously were packing some serious power...
an no one better say SRT4!

to me a "sleeper" would be the Subaru Forester XT that's kinda ugly... but yet does 0-60 in the low 5's -stock

I would have to give another vote for the gnx.
If I don't have to choose a production car I would say that 80's ford crown vic wagon (I think) I saw posted on this forum doing a autocross run.

I'm pretty sure Hockeyman meant Typhoon & Syclone, but those are some sweet sleepers. I'm digging the Grand Cherokee SRT8 though, low 13s stock (faster than the twin-turbo Cayennes) and handles pretty damn good for a big SUV.

BMW's, MB's, or anything Badged SRT, SVT, TRD or whatever... not a sleeper. I agree with the Forester/Outback XT's but at the same time what about some 93 acura legend thats just been sup'd up like crazy by the owner under the hood but left stock on the outside.
THATS a sleeper

I recently ordered an '08 Mustang Bullitt, partly because of its unassuming appearance. No spoiler, fog lights, emblems, or logos. I like it's stealthy or sleeper looks when compared to other Mustangs.

yeah but you dbadge an audi its still an audi... a benz is still a benz, you make it sound like you take off the TL logo and people will think youre driving a pinto.
Theres a guy on facebook with a 93 chevy cavalier whos dropping a 350 in it and has some serious after market stuff on it. now, it is a piece of shit in my opinion and I wouldn't care to waste my money on something like that but we all know ANY one of us on azine would pull up to him at a stop light and think they could obliterate him and most of us with the exception of some cars on here with forced induction and whatnot would get their asses handed to them.
that is a true sleeper. nothing special on the outside, all money under the hood.
anyone remember the 1993 Chameleon XLE from SNL?
"Every inch of the Chameleon XLE is a pinnacle of urban design.
There's attention to detail. Like three mismatched wheel covers, and one exposed rim in school-bus yellow. Standard.
A broken taillight repaired with duct tape. Standard.
Retractable antenna. Standard.
The body of a Pontiac with a driver's-side door from an Oldsmobile Delta '88. All standard.
The Chameleon XLE. They might tow it away, but they'll never steal it."

De-badging a premium german car no matter what trim still wouldn't qualify as a sleeper to me.
Again, how the hell is a car with 400 hp stock and the main heavily advertised feature (which is the only reason anyone bought them) a sleeper????

I'll still stand by the SRT8 Cherokee, most people won't know what hit them until they're looking at the center mount exhaust.

maybe I just assume that most people know enough about cars to realize what car has what potential to whoop your ass... whatever.
but i still stand by my statement that whoever thinks a GTO is a sleeper seriously needs to have their head examined.

Since some are finally agreeing with me and the Dodge Omni GLH, here's a picture to reinforce what a true "sleeper" looks like... which is a POS. This example is a 10.9 1/4 mile car.

The era of the 'factory' sleeper is largely gone, most manufacturers attach all types of racey looking things to their fast offerings these days. Its a lesson learned by Chevrolet with the '90-'95 ZR-1, when they looked almost exactly like standard Corvettes except for a slightly wider rear end...and a different taillight treatment on the early cars.
For sleepers these days, I will go with the big Benz sedans. Unless you know what that S600 or S65 badge means on the decklid, there really isn't much else to tell you the thing will crush your new Mustang GT in the 1/4 mile.

A sleeper is just the way it looks, powerfull engine and plain looks that what i think is a sleeper, if you step back and look at a gto befor they had the hood scopes and actually looked at it and had no previous ideas about it you would tell me that it has 400hp v8

How about more of a classic sleeper. This one IMO started the whole sleeper term.
1962 Pontiac Catalina Super Duty 421
I came across one at a car show a few months back and the owner was schooling me on it. Wow, what a car. Looked like any other full sized early 60's GM car but came from the factory with a big block 421 with dual quad carbs and NASCAR heads on it and even though the factory claimed it was 405hp it was closer to 500hp. From the outside you'd never guess this car was a monster.
