(I cant make sense of something like that but they just have a totally different perspective.)
That said, I like the Viper's performance and know it would tear an NSX apart in a race. However, I'd take the NSX over the Viper any day.

This guy was cool as sh!t. We got caught at a light together and nailed. I had a crappy launch, but we were close the entire time we were going. We got up to about 160 and then slowed down. I absolutley love that car though!!

IMO, the decision would really depend on the objective and what the plans were for the car. The Viper is brutally quick out of the box; the NSX isn't. The Viper is not a slouch when it comes to handling and braking. In the hands of an experienced driver the Viper will handle as well as the NSX.
However, most people can't drive well enough, including myself, to extract the same potential out of the car. The NSX is easier to drive fast so for many it would work out well. But you can't get over that power deficit and the NSX would ultimately lose to a Viper on a track.
But if it came down to purchasing a used one of either and putting some money into moddifying them, I would take the NSX. The more exotic look and mid-engine layout is very desireable. It would take some money to get near the Viper's acceleration but it can be done. There is just something about the NSX which I have always liked.
I guess that is why I will be buying one for a project in the near future.

I think a viper would be fun to drive, but I would never want to own one. However, I'd love to own an NSX. IMO, It's such a refined car, especially the engine.

Here's an idea of what the SRT Viper can do:
*The most remarkable thing with this group is that the new record holder is a Dodge Viper (who'da thunk it!--see John Kiewicz' comments), and its 97-foot braking distance is the first time in history we've recorded a sub-100-foot stop in a production car.
*This is only the second occasion when we've recorded a sub-300-foot stop for a production car and now we have five. The former record holder was a 294-foot stop from a previously tested Corvette Z06.

For the same level of driving skill, an NSX will easily outperform a stock, previous generation Viper at the track due to the nature of mid-engine and RWD plus a lightweight aluminum body. However, the Viper's phenomenal pull in a straight-line makes it quite the experience, but the constant attention to drive it hard is downright draining. Trying to monitor your throttle position to keep the car from flying off the track takes a lot of mental capacity.
In the end, it really boils down to what you're looking for in a car. The NSX has its appeal because it is mid-engined, has exotic lines, and is an exceptional handling car with an excellent racing pedigree. The Viper is a stunning looking example of American design done right and has exceptional acceleration, but suffers from the weight of that massive V10 sitting in the nose. The handling is good, but cannot compete with an NSX in true track conditions. The ample torque, however, makes it easier to drive on a daily basis.
Figure out what you want in a car and pick the one that most closely matches.

Yea but for a GT3 you can get 2 NSX's or 2 Vipers. For overall look, stlye, performance, and value i would get the NSX. Its rare, its a honda, and hand crafted.

If you guys want any info on these cars, let me know. Especially the 1991-1996 model (3.0L, 5spd). I can tell you guys what goes wrong... what things cost to fix... what are the 'annoying' things that could happen etc.
It's a lovely car and at times I wish I did not sell mine - would be a nice playcar!!

Caveat: I have never driven a Viper and I own a NSX....
Anyway, as some of you have said, it's about your priorities...
The NSX is fast, though not as fast as some other cars out there, including many that are fairly modest. A big bottle of nitrous on an Evo or STI will make it faster than a Viper, but on some level who cares? Is your desire to have the fastest car in your town? If so, I wish you luck. Hard to stay at the top.
For me, it's a blast to accelerate hard and get that rush and I bet a Viper would do that for me even better than the NSX, but owning a car is more than just driving it all out all the time. The NSX is a really nice car to spend time in. It was designed with incredible attention to detail. Thus, the NSX is the perfect exotic car in that its fast, handles amazingly well, is reliable, is very sexy, is fun to drive and doesn't really cost all that much to own (insurance, gas, etc).

BTW, the Hennessey Venom TT SRT Viper placed in C&D's Supercar Challenge in '04. Sadly Comptech didn't bring out their NSX this time, maybe they didn't want to lose as bad as they did in 2002 in the Supercar Challenge again.:troutslap
