Unhappy What ever happened to street racing?

Toronto driver clocked at 203 km/h in a 60 km/h zone

Well at least we know the new ILX can go quite fast.

Do you guys agree with the stunt driving laws? Having the car impounded for 7 days is going to be a ton of money. My buddy says these lots charge like 90$ an hour to keep it there.

Whatever happened to going to an actual drag strip ? I'm not sure what you're asking. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Public endangerment is not cheap..

203 km/h = 127 mph
60 km/h = 37.5 mph

This isn't the same as touching 150 on the 400. 200+ in a 60 is nuts. Beyond nuts. I have no idea how he kept the throttle pinned long enough to get up to that speed on Victoria Park Truly lucky there wasn't an accident.

Impound lots are not $90/hr. $90/day, more likely. They vary. I've paid $30 per day (on top of the tow) after my car was impounded for a parking violation. When my Jetta was totalled, insurance paid something like $120/day to some sketchy repair shop that the tow driver "recommended". Lesson learned.

I knew a few guys that got big $$ taken for street racing. One guy was out about $1k between the ticket, tow, bail, storage lot, etc.

I'd be happy if they impounded his car plus cut up his licence on the spot and gave him a 5 year driving ban. That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of.

Better question,

How long did it take this Civic to hit 203 km/h?

Most previous street racers have become Mustang drivers

The streets are a lot more quite at night thanks too these new laws I suppose. I wonder if there are any statistics done on traffic fatalities before and after these laws were put in place. It makes me wonder what will happen in the future when there are autonomous cars everywhere. Who is going to over torque their Tesla EV when the computer is going to alert the police of you racing it anyhow. It's kind of a tangent but with these rules and regulations and new tech coming out, is there going to still be a place for street tuners?

There's street racing all over the GTA but you'll never hear about it because the guys that do it aren't complete idiots. They go far out where there's no chance of being seen/heard.

It appears these days most street racers make the effort to keep away from the public and try to endanger only themselves. Watch any popular YouTube channel about it, & you'll see a lot of these guys who do it quite often, either run in warehouse districts or highways on the outskirts of cities. I think all the guys who go out & race during TX2K wait til' 2-3 in the morning and shut it down by 4-5AM.

Everyone hella flush with broken camber. Can't go anywhere fast. That is what happened. Going 100+ with half your tires touching the road. I think not

Plenty of people still street race, it's just not mainstream front page news anymore.

Not to mention people have kind of realized you can pool money and go to a track and go fast without ruining your life.

If anyone wants to go in on a track day at COTA...

Out here there is still plenty of racing. People get killed all the time, it's on the news quite often. I always see idiots at red lights revving their engines trying to get people to race them. I get challenged quite often too by people in Challengers, Mustangs, BMW's and Riced out Civics.

If the guy was racing, the car should have been crushed, not impounded.

I'm sure some of you would agree if you had to bury your friend because of dipshits racing on the streets/highways.

Street racers? souped-up cars crushed - US news - Crime & courts NBC News

Charles Hoang winced when the whoosh went out of the tires. Daniel Maldonado took pictures with a digital camera as glass exploded and rained down to the ground.

The cars the teens had so meticulously souped up and tricked out were crushed Wednesday as part of a crackdown on illegal street racing in Southern California.

"That's my heart, my dream," said Hoang, 18, of Chino, who was surrounded by friends as his 1998 Acura Integra was put into a compactor. "That's my girlfriend, the love of my life. The cops can crush my car, but they can't crush my memories."

Authorities destroyed six vehicles Wednesday at an auto graveyard, hoping would-be racers think again after looking at the mashed machines. Illegal street racing is responsible for or suspected in 13 deaths in Southern California since March.

OP you do realize most of the people on this forum live in the states right? Their laws arent the same. Also there has been street racing ever since cars where invented and its not going anywhere, but like others have pointed out people are smarter about it now and it happens super late at night in an unpopluated area as best they can find with a decent road. No one wants to hurt or kill and innocent person, and no one wants the cops to show up! you dont have Dominic Torretto saying he lives his life 1/4 mile at a time and hector went legit for the NIRA circuit......
