What car to purchase. Need help.

Hey,
I was thinking of buying a new manual car. Looking to spend mid 20k. What came to my mind was...RSX type S, Honda Accord V6M, or should I get a Toyota Celica GTS. I heard that the RSX is going to be discontinued in 2007. And the Accord is going to get a total redesign in 2008, and the Celica is also getting a redesign in 2007. So I'm a tad confused of what to buy. But as of now...what do you guys think of those 3 cars. Also, I need it as a practical car..no RWD. got any other suggestions...that would help. Thanks.

are you serious? how did you miss this

https://acurazine.com/forums/car-talk-5/2005-legacy-gt-stage-1-a-315643/

subaru is clearing out 05 legacys right now!!!! you can get a full loaded limited 5spd for 25K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thats 4K of!!!!! could prob get a reg GT model for 23K if you can find it. it will completely eat all of those cars without trying. RSX is too small. Celica is a chick car no matter what you do to it i dont care. accord is like and @sshole everyone has one. do yourself a favor. SUBARU LEGACY GT!

not to mention it is extremely untuned from the factory!! the amount of power released with so little $$$$ is insane.

Personally, I'd go with the RSX Type S. It's the most fun of the three and the hatch is pretty versitile. I didn't care much for the 6spd on the Accord...it felt too soft or something. But you do get a far amount of torque. Do you definitaly want a 2 door? You might be able to squeeze a WRX in in the mid-20s. Those are hella-fun too.

What does it matter if the RSX is getting discontinued in 2007? Are you waiting for that time to buy? If you like the car, get it. Same with the Accord...however, I hear the Accord is getting an 10 HP boost for 2006...it might be worth waiting for that.

BTW: Isn't the Celica getting discontinued soon too?

Yeah I believe so...Yeah I prefer a 2dr car..cause I'm tired of driving a Sedan. =| Besides I have a TL =). So yeah thats why I was leaning toward those 3. I probably will either get an Accord V6(M) or a RSX-S. I was thinking of buying a WRX...becuase I drove the 98 2.5RS...and it was hella of fun...while the Celica isn't that appealing to me. So I don't know...people be telling me to get the RSX-Type S. Stay in the Acura family. LoL...but if the accord is getting a 10hp boost...which doesnt mean anything. lol. which makes it wat 250hp vs. 210hp. I don't know. Also, the accord v6 is 3k more...so I don't know.

Sit down and write out the pros and cons of each. That might help you decide.

Yeah, 10hp doesn't really mean much...but it's something to consider anyway.

Drive 'em all and that should tell you what you will like best... You really need to decide how big (or small) a car you're looking for. The RSX and Celica were too small for me, so I went with the CLS. The accord coupe ex 6mt is pretty much the same as the CL (at least size wise).

I'd go for the RSX simply because it's fuel efficient and fun to drive. Plus the 05 RSX-S is somewhat quicker than previous iterations. It will be cheap to operate over its lifetime.

go test drive one. your decision will be easy. its missing a couple of the elec goodies the tsx has, but makes up for it in the fun to drive factor. i cant see how you could go from a tl to a rsx or wrx. you need a lux sprt sedan. that means tsx or legacy gt. can you even get a new tsx for 25k? i thought it was 30k like the legacy gt ltd. thats why they always comparing them since they cost almost the same. however the new 06 legacy has the nav, but expect to pay 29.xxx for it. not worth 4k more for navi if you ask me since 05s can be had for 25k easy

peace

Wow, that's pretty cheap. Isn't the fully loaded GT Limited cost over $30K usually?

btw. you could probably get a non navi tsx for $25-26K

id say if its a coupe, go with the rsx type-s. ive driven 2 '05 rsx's and i couldnt take the smile off my face for hours. The Rsx's are also faster than the accord coupe v6's, ive witnessed it for myself. if sedan, def subaru legacy GT's. 1k worth of mods will get u an insane amout of HP, that car responds to mods so well. the TSX doesnt have enough power in my opinion, honda needs to give it alteast 50 more hp

the sticker on a loaded new 06 with nav is about 29,700 it is possible the destination fee is not included but im pretty sure it is. either way it doesnt change the fact that subaru is offering 1500 cash back as well as large discount on remaining 05 models. now is the time to jump ship. i got my 05 loaded at invoice at 27 but that was in nov. def call around local sube dealers. you should really check them out.

Thx guys..I will test drive both. It seems that I am leaning more toward the RSX-S. I always liked that car. Its a quick, light, and easy to mod car. The performance parts in the RSX world is much larger than the Accord V6. =) I'll wait till the clearance comes up for the 06's, so I can see the concepts of the new accord =0).

It's not "underpowered". It's plenty faster than the first gen 2.5TL (which I have and I think even that is plenty fast for every day purposes). The definition of underpowered is when you struggle up hills, you take forever and a day to pass, and you rev at like 4000rpm on the highway. The TSX is none of those. It has more power than the offerings you can get for the same price from BMW, MB, and Audi. Of course, if you opt for the auto transmission, THEN it's underpowered. That car is meant to have a manual.

I'd prefer an Accord because I prefer a decent sized car rather than a hatch but that's me. The RSX will easily outperform the other 2 and easily has more mod availability. The Accord can only get like 3 or 4 mods. It all depends on what you want. I'd get the Subie too if I were going for that range.

exactly. i see the tsx as a grown up rsx/teg/lude. just like the legacy is to the wrx. it is a heavy car for only 161 lbs of tq that is high on the rpm range. thats why i didn't get another acura. tl was out of my range and i already had a non FI 4 banger. never again- with few exceptions. s2k comes to mind. i still love honda but subie has def moved in as long as they dont ruin the next legacy with a pig nose! i prob wont be back to honda anytime soon. cept for my off road toys!

Another option completely off your map is a Subaru Forester XT. Can be modded with an STi suspension, STi turbo, STi intercooler, and engine management relatively cheaply. Total sleeper (except for the fact that your SUV would be sitting fairly low). And extremely practical, too.

In that price range I'd buy an Evo, but I do like the Accord Coupe V6, fully-loaded with the 6-speed out of all your options.

at the last meet some dude showed up with one with a gt35 turbo. completely stock on the outside including 4x4 ground clearance yet it would pretty much dust anything on the road. he said he dynoed 400 something without a tune. i just dont get it. forget wheel power i wouldnt know what to do with 400 at the crank besides kill myself

That Accord is pretty luxurious compared to similar options in that price range (excluding the TSX).
