well we did it...
Well after many test drives at many dealerships, the wife and I will be trading in the 2003 Tiburon for a silver 6sp TSX..the only options that we went with are the block heater and the fog lamps. Other than that I am quite excited for her to get this car (my car is a 2001 maxima on 20's---I can't give that up!) Our first mod will be to get rims, and since I sell rims for part of my living, i am going with a custom 2pc forged set not available in Canada...i am the only dealer carrying them. Its going to be so much fun. Great to be here and to enjoy this site.
By the way what did you Calgarians end up paying? Did the dealer come down in price?

Congrats. How big are you going on the TSX rims? And why did you get rid of your 2003 tiburon?
Well...the car is great. But the wife is not feeling too safe because of a couple of blind spots that have spooked her on more than one occasion. The A pillar seems pretty thick to her, thicker than my Maxima's A pillar. We had some near misses. The other is the blind spot when you go to shoulder check. it is really difficult to see down the side. Other than that the car is mechanically sound..great to drive around in. Since we have been trying to sell privately, we have not been havin any luck, so we decided to trade it in. The sales guy gave the TSX to us for about an hour to boot around. That was unexpected. We made sure that the blind spots and comfort was there before we made the deal.
As for the sizing, 19's all the way. Going for the polished lip type of rim.

Hey Big H, are you guys going through Silverhill or NorthWest?
You're going to love the new car!
P.S. What wheels are you putting on? Any pics? I'll be needing a set for next spring, and was leaning towards the RH Evo C2. Not sure if the 42 offset would work though...

We are going through Silverhill. Really good process so far.
If you really need wheels definitely keep me in mind. I considered the Racing Hart C2, but they came out with a new wheel, CX. Gorgeous wheel. But the wheel I am putting on will be custom 2 pc forged in 19"...I really want a polished lip...the wheel line will be competing up against HRE. Check them out www.bcforged.com

Ya I went through Silverhill, too.
I'm curious as to what they told you was included with the car. I was told it came "winterized" for Canada, and included the block heater, splash guards, wheel locks and he said all weather mats. Then when I picked it up it had carpet mats. When I asked about it, he said the other ones are called "rubber" mats.
Just wondering if I'm getting the run-around on this. I love the carpet ones and wouldn't trade them for the rubber, but if I'm supposed to have both sets, I'd like to know.
Also, did you get the infamous Acura pen? I didn't.
P.S. Yes, those new CX wheels are pretty hot, too. I'm torn between the look of just a 5 spoke vs. something with 7-10 spokes...

As for the pen..it could take a couple months before it comes in the mail.

Hmmm, they're not winterizing anything here in Toronto. Did you get the Block Heater at no charge? The rubber mats are definently "Winter" mats. I had those and the splash guards thrown in but the wheel locks I think come on the car anyway.
I just placed the rubber mats over the carpet mats (which come with the car) and they fit perfectly. I'm pretty sure they're made to be used together.

Hey domn I had to take my carpet mats out to fit the rubber one on the drivers side. I couldnt get those plastic hooks to fit throught the mats when both mats were in there? How the heck did you manage to do it?
Now that I think about it, I'm not sure the rubber mats are in the hooks and I never really thought about wheather or not they should be? I can tell you though that I've had Zero problems with the rubber mat riding up at all, which was a very common problem I had in my Civic and Integra. I'll check this out later today and let you know if there in the hooks.
I wouldn't pay $195 (or whatever they're charging for the rubber mats), but if others were getting them included then I want them, too! When the dealer said they sell theirs "winterized" and the fact he mentioned mats, maybe I just assumed they'd be the rubber ones. If he meant the stock carpet ones, why even mention them??
Instead, I think I'll just pick up a $20 set elsewhere, and make them fit!
Domn - yes the block heater was incl for no extra charge. Of course due to a dealer swap, mine wasn't actually in it when I took delivery. But that's getting rectified next Tuesday.

I was at Northwest when I was looking for an EL....I kept running the numbers, and for some reason, they came up a couple hundred dollars cheaper than West side in Edmonton. Then it rang in....Northwest did *NOT* include the block heater and wheel locks in the sticker price!!
Sneaky guys....that would have been one of those "Sign here--oh, and by the way, we'll have to include this mandatory $150 winterization package" things. I understand from my cousin, that Silverhill is much better. However, I don't like dealers who stick decals and whatnot on the cars. West side only gave me a surround for the plate....I think that was tasteful, and, of course, easily removable. But, since I think they're a pretty good dealership, I don't mind giving them a bit of free advertising.
And, about the Winter mats... I *bought* a set for my EL. I have to tell you...they are very nice indeed. Way thicker rubber than anything you'd buy from Canadian Tire or whatnot...and they're cut and channelled correctly, so you don't get mud flowing off your mats, through the channel you cut, and onto the carpet.
Probably not necessarily worth the money I paid, but I like them for their "custom fit" look.
When I go looking for my TSX, I'll definitely include those things as part of my negotiation, though.
And, before I forget the original intent of this thread: Congrats, Big h!

I did pull off their emblem as I already got their chrome licence plate holder and didn't need two badges, considering pulling the "Acura" logo off the back too.Big H.. Congrats!! I wouldn't mind using my current 17's as snows and upgrade to 18/19's for some summers. Will you be lowering the car, I assume you would be. If and when you do we'll need pics.
I haven't done much customizing yet. The weather has been great and kept me out of the garage. I still want to do 35% tint all the way around, but know the cops can be an issue, not so much here in Calgary but the RC's in BC are a different story.
Like to change out the interiour, high beam bulbs to xenons and buy into the Zaino program before the snow flies. What are you guys (Copper Top, Big H) doing in the short term?
Well, I plan on dropping it (only 1.5"), but am undecided on which springs or coilover to go with. This car is going to be my travelling ad and also my showcar to any event my company decides to enter. So lots of mods are enroute...as soon as I find out whats available. The rims will take 3-4 weeks to build, and then 1-2 weeks to deliver, I probably will only put them on for some pics and then take them off until spring next year. I plan on setting up an account with other bodykit manufacturers, I really like the Visage bodykit and the Mugen bodykit. So keep me in mind everyone...hehe.
As for upgrading to 18's or 19's, give me an email and lets see what we can come up with. sales@bigwheelz.com

big h, congrats, I'm sure you'll love the car.
re: Northwest v. Silverhill, when I was checking prices, Silverhill gave me a good quote I used to get a good deal from West Side, since I'm in Edmonton (I would have gone to Calgary for the right deal). North West offered me $34.5K + $399 "customer service" package (VIN etching) + $950 Freight/PDI. So their offer was basically MSRP.
West Side had a small white sticker on the back of the car, I had them remove it. Their plate frame is just cheap black plastic and rattles, I'll have to get a replacement. A plain chrome one would be nice.
Re: tint, I think I'll do the rear windows 35%. Maybe 20 on the back window itself. I'm considering doing the front side windows as well, but 1) I don't want an issue with the police and 2) I am concerned about the safety and visibility at night.
Re: Zaino. Sounds interesting, but it also sounds like a lot of work. I went with the last two steps of Meguiars 3-step (polish, Gold Class Wax) when I first got the car, then did another wax a few days later. Looks nice so far, and the bugs don't seem to stick, so it's easy to keep clean.

Ahh some bad news....the Acura salesman did not give us the value we were looking to get from the trade in and basically told us no one will be giving the amount we are looking for and to take what we could get...I mean there was no room to even bargain with him or his manager....so we went across the street to the Mazda dealership, who on the second day of negotiations came to a number we both could agree on...so the wife is in the Mazda 6. But the weird thing about the whole thing is that the I realized that the TSX was going to be a hard car to put some rims on...well the Mazda 6 is going to be just as hard. The offset is +60...like whoa! Same rims going on the TSX is going on the Mazda...I'll post some pics for you all.
Sorry about the late notice and all.

For you guys that go with bigger wheels... how do you adjust the speedometer for the increase in diameter. I know that you can keep the diameter in check with lower profile tires but it's never the same as the OEM diameter. I've seen an adjustment screen on the Navi equipped cars that looks like a wheel diameter adjustment. Is this the trick? And for non-navi systems, what do you do?
Just found this old link. i felt like adding that i bought my car from Silverhill and they turned into useless pricks after that, it took me a year to find the better way was to deal with NorthWest on the opposite end of the city. North west just treat me good, i dont know how they're sales were. but i always get a loaner car and such. and they stopped my speaker rattles for good compared to Silverhill failing over 5 times.
