Well...the S2000 needed more doors, more driven wheels, and a lot more torque...

My wife spent $60 to fill up the Lexus at Costco yesterday for 2/3 a tank. Costco was $4.69 for premium...its over $5 at regular stations.
To contrast I spent last working up in Santa Clarita, a roughly 80 miles roundtrip. And I would have to charge every 2 days. So 3 super charger trips during off peak hours and I spent about $45. It would have been at least double for a gas equivalent.
But everything is more expensive here to include electric rates. I think tier 1 is .17 a kWh. and if you pump to their 2 its .23 kWh. Super Chargers off peak are .24 kwh.

Either way, the cost savings to run an EV are substantial especially with the way gas prices are going these days.

Electricity isn't bad here either - ~13 cents/kWh year round. The price only changes over 800kWh per month.
I'm actually exploring solar at the moment (roof is south facing) with a battery backup. Between the added value to the home (~3-4%), the tax incentive, and SRECs, it's kind of a no brainer.

There's still a federal tax incentive of 26%. But your electricity is cheap.
For me, it's about a 10yr ROI, not accounting for the increased electricity usage of the car or yearly rate hikes. I'm also looking into a battery backup, still unsure on that one though.

That and we won't be in this house for all that long either. Anyway, it most of the time makes little sense to do solar in MN just because we don't get the daylight that a lot of other places do.

I have a 1.5kw solar system with 4 panels. Need to find a reputable company to take a look & get a quote on expanding/upgrading. Don't really know much about the system as it was on the house when we moved in & is one of the few things the prior owners have very little documentation on (the other being the pool).
IIRC, I looked at the Tesla site & got something like a $20k quote for a 4.5kw system, but I doubt that would include removing/relocating the old panels. Not sure if they would play nice with a new setup.
All I know is that we nearly doubled our sq ft when we moved & our elec bill only went up about 20% compared to our old house.

You guys live in a vastly different climates and environments than I do lol. I sure hope you get more sun than I do here. Google Sunroof has a good estimator for how much power your house can produce given its location. Here's what I got:
That makes it 100% not at all worth it.

Their estimate says $36k install & 16 year breakeven.
Hard part, is I'd have to have a haphazard layout, as my roof shape isn't conducive to an array, apart from where the current 4 panels are.

Project Sunroof doesn't have any data for my house, but a house with a similar roof structure and azimuth that's in an older section of my neighborhood has an estimated net savings of $15k. The savings listed are based on an inflated install amount (a 9kw system is $25k according to them, I've received quotes around $20k for the same size), so YMMV.
I don't think their calculator accounts for the increase in home value either. That doesn't matter if you're keeping the house forever, but something to think about.

It's not perfect but it's a good way to get a general ballpark idea of what you'd expect. My house has a lot of weird angles and faces because of the way the house was designed. There isn't really a big surface to cover as our roof has lots of small areas cobbled together because of the shapes of the house. That in itself makes it less good for solar. Also not going to stay here much longer anyway and power is cheap and reliable so whatever. Maybe I'll explore later but probably not.

I want to know I won't need my APCs (a slew of them) when the power goes out (2-3x a year for 5minutes to a few hours historically) Solar and a battery is aboujt the same cost as a Generac at the right rating for the house. I have made the case, the Mrs says we can put up with the minor power loss suck it up (not in so many words)
Doesn't change the fact I want my power to be uninterruptable.

If you have constant issues with power delivery then I get it but that's not really a thing here since all the power is buried and reliable.

I bet it sucks, especially for you in the summer. We don't have anything resembling rolling blackouts or brown outs so it's not a huge deal here.
Honestly, getting an EV that can feed power to your house is the best way to do energy storage. That way you get a big ass battery and you also have a car.

Ho lee fuk! Rivian just sent me an email with updated pricing for my truck and they are increasing by $15k. Price went from $74k to $89k. I'm out for that kind of coin as I'd rather get something else (or two of something else) for nearly $100k.

I saw an article about the price hike on Inside EVs but wasn't sure how it impacted current reservation holders. That's really shitty that you'd have to pay more if you went through with it. The dual motor version is now the same price that the quad motor was.

The usual supply chain garbage.
$90k for a truck is very much in the territory of other very desirable cars like an AMG wagon or a Taycan. I'm going to cancel today and wait out for the Gladiator 4xe to be honest. I was really looking forward to the Rivian but I'm not doing the bait and switch.
I figured they'd honor existing preorder holders but nope. If your truck wasn't already in production you're fucked. There are TONS of people on the forums who are dipping out with the price increase. If there are that many of the enthusiasts bailing out I can't imagine what's going to happen with the "normal" people.

I think there is a difference between not affording and refusing to be gouged.
I distinctly remember hearing my parents talking when I was young. My Dad would say we were broke and then they bought a new car or went on a vacation.
I always thought you said you were broke?????
I got it when I became self-responsible.

How about I don't want to afford something of that price point. If I'm going into that range I'll be looking for something with a long roof out of Affalterbach.

Rivian just isn't ready for the kind of production they need. They should have stopped taking reservations long ago, but instead they pull the bait and switch bullshit.

What rivian forum specifically? Just curious to go read. I have a customer who ordered an R1S, going to ask him if he received the same notification….

Got the email that they restored my pricing and place in line for the truck. Cost went from $89k back to $73k. Also found out that you can just pop off the stupid aero bits on the standard wheels (just like Tesla) and they look much better so I'm going to stick with the standard wheels and road tires. I'll get some AT tires in the future if I ever decide to actually take this thing off road. They are also throwing in the front tow hooks fo' free now which is good since it makes the truck look a lot better.

Can't wait to get this thing!
Debating selling the Tesla this summer and reaping the benefits of an apeshit resale market. Invest it all and hopefully pay for the truck in cash again when it's delivered. Would get something cheaper/older to drive in the mean time. Maybe an older Cayenne or something like that...or even a 6MT 2.0t Accord.
