Washington State gets tough on left lane bandits

You may have been misinformed, there is no such thing as the "fast lane" its the "passing lane".
The concept that the left lane is the fast lane is half the problem. All of the lanes are governed by the same speed limit, the left one is for passing the slow moving traffic.
If you are not actively passing another vehicle (meaning there is no vehicle to your immediate right) you should not be in the left lane end of story. It doesn't matter if you are going 85mph and you don't think the guy behind you should drive faster than that, what speed the guy behind you should be driving is the Polices problem not yours. If you are in the left lane and some one is behind you, pull to the right and let them by.

This.
Say it with me, "PASSING lane". Good. Now you've got it.
They even have signs that say "Keep Right Except to Pass" in case you forget.
I WISH they'd seriously enforce this everywhere.
I can dream, can't I?

another take on it for the go-green folk: when i see these slow ass drivers in the left lane these days, i think to my self jokingly how these assholes probably think they are saving gas or something; being afraid to ruin their mpg by accelerating. in reality, they are wasting more gas than anyone else: every single car that gets mad and has to pass them is wasting unnecessary gas. i have to downshift into 3rd [sport mode] and floor it past them to prove a point...one dumbass at a time.

definitely not being that enforced yet.
slow guy in far left lane on i5 just south of downtown Seattle.
I was being followed by a cop and decided to go around this slowpoke in the next lane over testing what the cop would do.
He sits behind the slowpoke for a half minute then proceeds to pass around him like I just did.
lame.

My father in law is culprit of the slow left lane driving. I try to explain it to him but I don't think he will ever change. He feels more comfortable in the left lane (annoying as f*ck).
I was taught to always drive with a way out. I never feel comfortable driving right next to somebody for long periods of time and I hate to someone in my blind spot.
Keep in mind most cops use the double digit rule. They ticket when the speed is double digits over the speed limit. So you can pass a speed limit driver in the left lane so long as your not doing over 9 mph past the speed limit.

Don't want to burst any bubbles, but they tried to enforce this in Ontario for a while- I think it was 2007, and then just gave up, and it went back to business as usual- hopefully WA has better luck
If I ever snap, I imagine this will be the cause

my god i wish north carolina had a police presence big enough to enforce this (at least it seems like there are no cops here coming from jersey) ... because these people are awful at using the left lane for passing. i never thought id miss jersey drivers. yes, they are pricks, but at least they use the left lane for passing for the most part.

NOTE: The NY drivers I'm referencing are likely NYC drivers and not upstate drivers. To NYC drivers who need to travel out of the NY Metro area via ground travel, here's a resource for you: Amtrak and Greyhound.

^Even if the state troopers were on the road, they wouldn't pull anyone for going 55 in the left lane of a 65/70. I've lived here long enough to know; they don't care if you're going too slow.
