Wagons - current options?
i would rule out CTS completely. it is a dying breed. they have dated tech, and the V wagon get the same MPGs as a heavy duty truck. additionally, the way caddy is pushing designs, the CTS wagon is already starting to look like a thing of the past compared to the new CTS sedans that just came out.
i was in a similar boat. got really excited over the allroad, but it suffers bigtime for utility. the rear seats are pathetic. the rear seats might as well be collapsed, for a 2 front seats plus extended cargo space. seriously, i was questioning why the thing even had four doors. if you could get away with a 2 door wagon for your lifestlye, then look no further, as this is effectively what you are getting.
if you default to a 3series wagon, i say do it. BUT, note that BMW jacks up prices only because they preserve strong residiuals. i.e. BUYING one is retarded, as pricing is structured for a competitive lease...as most people lease BMWs. if you go the route of leasing, i wouldnt look beyond a 328 wagon.

I don't think the CTS-V looks dated at all. I'm less of a fan of the 3.6L V6 engine in the CTS wagon.
Audi needs to get their act together with that 2.0T in the Allroad. It's just not good enough for a car that big.

Too bad the US market for these sucks.

- The Allroad's backseat is laughably small. It looks bigger than a standard A4 because of the flared fenders, but inside it's no bigger. I'm 6 ft and I like to sit closer to the steering wheel than normal for someone my height and I can't fit behind the driver seat comfortably.
- I mentioned in an earlier post that the 3-year residual on a 328i xDrive is 62% which is considerably better than any other brand I've heard of. That alone could be enough to convince me to lease a BMW.

Conversely, my VW dealership actually sells APR software and parts so they are completely fine with my APR-tuned Tiguan.
