The VW Phaeton is hot!

I may be the only one, but I think this car is hot as hell. Damn good price too.

After reading the review in last months "CAR" magazine I would buy one in a second if I was shopping in that segment.

mmmm.

I like the interior but the exterior reminds me of a Hundai Sonata!

What market is it for? Luxury? What kind of performance does it have?

But Soopa, why would you pay all that money to drive a VW. No matter how good it is. Everyone would wonna have an Audi or Mercedes or BMW nameplate instead. Dont you think?

I think this car will be discontinued in the next 1-3 years. Just like the Blackwood.

Because to get what this car has in a Audi, Bimmer, or Benz... your going to have to fork up an additional 20-30k.

btw, VW plans to make absolutely no money on this car. This car WILL lose money.

They are hoping to pay for it by using this car to improve their image... thus selling more bread winners... golfs/jettas/passats.

I like it too, but i think most people will just go for the Benz. Driving those cars is all about image.

For Europe:

Critical to the VW's credibility in the executive market will be the engine line-up – and it won't disappoint the most demanding of drivers. There will be two stars, one petrol and one diesel. Flagship of the range will be the W12, a relatively compact 6.0-litre 12-cylinder petrol unit producing an awesome 420bhp. Mated to a four-wheel-drive system and five-speed Tiptronic automatic box, it will aim to outperform all of Mercedes' models. The top oil-burner will be a V10 5.0-litre unit that will offer 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds and a 155mph top speed.

The entry-level car will be powered by a 241bhp 3.2-litre V6. It will offer a choice of manual and automatic gearboxes, and bosses predict that this model will be the big seller. A smaller V8 diesel is also expected, with around 200bhp and 450Nm of torque on tap.

America will only get the gas engines for now of course.

4get buying it new. Wait 1yr and just see how much it depreciates
Also, I can't imagine many peeps willing 2 pay 50K plus for a car that shares the same dealership as a $15K Jetta. Trust me, if people didn't car so much abt it then why do people still choose 2 pay more for an I35 when they can get a Maxima even cheaper???....

That is true with every car company. Ever car has an "intro" car and their "top-of-the-line" car.

take off all the VW emblems and stamp on an Audi, or Benz emblem then it will sell....overal very nice looking car...If someone showed me the interior pics of the car minus the VW emblem, I would have a hard time in guessing what kind of car it is

I meant to clarify, the Phaeton looks awesome and the interior is avant-garde, but it would have sold so much better 4 VW if it was stamped an Audi. I' not familiar abt the Audi's from the past but the present day Audio Co. has been trying to be sort of a German Lexus in the sense that their cars can cost almost 10-15% less then thbeir comparable German counterparts. Thus, the Phaeton would've been awesome if it was in the Audi lineup b/c of the mission that car is trying 2 fulfill.

Hey, I wouldn't mind buying this car brand new despite that its a Vw, but I don't know if the people who are a lot older then most of us here(read over 40+) want to justify spending this much money for a car that doesn't have the type of brand name catchet that BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, and Audi has.
