Volvo S60 bear with me.

I found a good deal on a 2004 Volvo S60 2.4 AT with 35k miles. What do you guys think? Its 7 years old and i think timing belt should be done soon. Previouse owner was old lady she worked as a teacher. Car was in the minor accident. Replaced was driver side airbag hood and bumper and driver side headlight. Price is really good as for a year and milage but i need some reviews from you guys some please. I know its auto and bla bla car is for my girlfriend its loaded has black lether interior. Its nice.

How expensive is maintenance on the S60? I had a secretary with an S80-- she paid four digits for front brake pads and rotors at the dealer, IIRC, and was complaining about it and some other maintenance costs.
Consider calling the dealer and Volvo independents to determine if services are affordable for the GF.

Otherwise, the style and size of the S60 (1st gen and current) are nice, but they aren't quick cars, excepting the 1st gen S60R.

My mother has a 2006 s60 with around 35,000 miles and has not had any issues with it except for a gas tank ventilation issue that threw a check engine light. Maintenance has been cheap so far, just basic items (air filters, tires, oil changes etc) Hope that helps!

I test drove 2 newer S60s (a 2009 and a 2008, though I focused my search mainly on 2007 and 2008 models) and found that I kind of liked it. Was it super fun? No. But it had this bank-vault, old-world luxury quality to it that I found attractive. From what I had heard the S60 was a fairly reliable car, especially in its later model years.

See if you can find a Volvo specialist nearby to take the car to and ask how much some routine repairs would cost. At the same time, said Volvo specialist could do an inspection and let you know what will need work.

Normally, I would pass on a car that was involved in a crash where airbag deployment was involved. But if you're set on this car as it sounds like a creampuff otherwise, I'd have it looked over to make sure it was properly repaired instead of just cut-and-shut. For every great body shop, there are fifty shitty ones.

I used to own a V70, and it was very reliable. Yes, as said previously, the "check engine" light can be a nuisance. That's because the emissions system is very touchy. 3 gas caps later and it was fixed.

The one thing about Volvo: very safe car to own (occupant safety), plus the seats are extremely comfortable.

Well, if it helps, I was in a 5 car pile-up on the freeway in my friend's S60. We were the center car and came out with only a bent license plate. 3 of the 5 cars were most likely totaled (pathfinder, tacoma, and civic). How the car in front of us and behind us had so much damage was beyond us. We were amazed by how we were able to drive away and later hugged the car for being a tank. I found the back seats a little cramped though.

dealer mainly, but you might also try carquest, which can then order you parts through worldpac

as far as timing belts don't skimp on those, they will break, and the head will have to be rebuild

btw: gave a quote for a 02 C70, for a blown head gasket, and that quote was something like $3300 (it did include the t/belt and water pump though, but we would already be in there, so why not)

and that did include machine work for the head, but that was basically only milling the head though, nothing else really

idk how i could give you advice on a "deal" without knowing the price.

i wouldnt let comestic damage deter you. sounds like you should pull the trigger.

insurance will be cheap too.

i don't work on too many of them so i don't really know

as far as T/belt, iirc it had been due at something like 70k and it only had like 65k on it though, but i think it had been due by time though (it was like a 98 btw, so a little older)

edit: if this tells you something, but quite a few shops will decline working on them because they can be a headache to work on at times (there are specialized shops that just work on them though, separate of the dealer; and that is all they do...)

also they can take a few specialized tools too at times also... unless you actually own them, not going to find them easily

I like it but did not have time yet to go and register it. Probably tomorrow. Today im gonna wash it vacuum and see what else it needs. I see front headlight wipers are missing the center console box doesnt close properly and something with gas tank opener is not right.

Oil change filter and maybe timing belt pretty soon will be done.

also first maintence item to do... is clean the inside of that intercooler (since likely the car is turbo), the few volvos i have worked on. with only like 70k on the clock, enoung oil had collect in the charge tubes (pressurized side) then it was litially dripping out at the turbo connection, so who knows how much oil the inside of that intercooler is coated with

btw if you are woundering what i did today.... i cleaned the wife's intercooler with only 30k on the clock and it gained quite a bit of power back (alot more then i had expected)

basically all i did was remove the intercooler (a little easier to do with a top mount though), and basically i sprayed like half a can inside of it (can was empty, and i did not feel like grabbing another one , but i had got out the majority of the oil out of it though), and let it drain out the other side

is there a turbo sitting off the back of the motor near the firewall?

also normally the smaller motors are the turbo ones, especially when so close in displacement, for additional strength needed for the boost from the turbo

come on its an automatic. I was trying to figure it out what is that "W" button right next the shifter and looks like its Winter mode for tranny which starts from a 2nd gear. this is my first automatic car and i have never drove one b4 (only twice as i had to use loaner and father's van)

more then likely, i know on alot of cars it is like normal, and power mode (or like on GM trucks with the "tow" mode)
but yes basicqally more then likely changes the shift pattern of the transmission (along with starting out in 2nd possibly)

It's not a turbo?

I remember when I was S60 shopping and it was far easier to find a 2.5T or a 2.4T than the non-Turbo models...

lol, but yeah volvo does like there turbos very much though

btw you should try tightening some headbolts on a volvo (i heard does not matter if turbo or not) they ARE GOD DAMN TIGHT MOTHERFUCKERS, like the tightest ones i have seen, but just means you can crank more boost though, without worries for the head gasket

My favorite part about all the Volvos I test drove was the turbo. The one Volvo I wasn't a huge fan of happened to be a S40 2.4i... I drove one with the T5 motor a few weeks later, and

I wanted that car bad.
