Virginia... Radar Detectors... Almost, almost
To me, hurting != injury
You can hurt somebody without actually injuring them. Stealing their car/money, arson, certain sex crimes, are few that come to mind.
So, no...I don't take the same approach to all laws.
If I am speeding, I am neither hurting nor injuring somebody.

I tend to speed alot on the highways/freeways but in school zone or residential area i keep it to the speed limit maybe 5 over in more open resident street but never school zones. Kids are known to jump out whenever they feel like it and a car going 20 will stop in half the distance of a car going 30-35.
I rather be late then to run some over.

You really missed the point of this one.

I love the law. The fines go to running the state's trauma centers. If you want to put yourself at risk of needing the meat wagon, you're going to help pay for it.
Because 84 is so slow.
Furthermore, you don't even have the facts of the fine correct. It's $200 + speeding fine either instance.

Still, this idea that speeding is the cause of trauma accidents is just flat wrong. I work in a Trauma center myself and the vast majority of accidents we see roll through are relatively low-speed collisions. I live right on I95 and we usually get a serious accident from there maybe once every 3-4 months.
The injuries you will sustain from getting in a wreck at 90mph are not significantly greater than that of 70mph and just because you are going 90mph does not mean you are automatically going to end up in a fiery crash.
If you truly want to curb the number of deaths on our highways the only way is NOT draconian speed enforcement, but a much more stringent and expensive licensing process. Enforcement of other traffic laws besides speeding (such as left lane pass-only) would also help....
Ya....to myself. As I said earlier, speeding laws only protect me from myself. I can do that on my own. Thanks.
And, to add to majin's idea...
In Germany, speeding in non-residential areas is on the driver. If you get into an accident going over 130kph, insurance will not cover you. This allows people to police themselves.
You put everyone around you at risk because say your speeding then someone walks across the street and you can't stop in time and hit them. If you had gone slower you would have been able to stop.
I think those who speed in highly populated areas especially when there are kids around are quite childish.

But you have a higher chance of stopping in time. I rather increase my chances then to decrease it because I feel like speeding in a school zone or residential area. Like I said i rather be late then to risk the lives of others around me.
If i want to go 70-80 i have the freeways and highways when there isn't traffic. If i want to see how fast my car can go then I go to the tracks. I have my fun while keeping myself and others safe.

I disagree with speed limits in general, but I never said anything about going 70-80 in residential area. I don't need a sign telling me to slow down around children and in populated areas.
I was mostly talking about highways.

Still there isn't a need to do triple digits or close to that on highways. Speed on highways seem to be a bit slow especially for today standard for cars and hp. Even family four door sedans are breaking 300hp. They don't need more then half of that to go 70-80.
So I somewhat agree that the current speed limit on some highways are a bit slow, but i still don't think that there shouldn't be a speed limit at all.
To stay on topic radar detectors shouldn't be ban that I think is just stupid especially if you are the ONLY state that bans it.

You're right, I don't know where I got the numbers from but it is $200 for both infractions.

Which, like I said, I don't have a problem with. If someone feels the need to go that much faster than the posted limits (that's 30mph in Atlanta), then they can help fund the trauma centers. It's a conscious choice.
I agree. Especially on the Atlanta Autobahn. I go between 75-80 on 285 just to not get run over. 100 seemed to be the goal this morning.
