vinyl / fabric top

Other than the look, what is the purpose of aftermarket vinyl / fabric top? To reduce noise? I'd guess it probably will reduce rain drop noise quite a bit.

Saw a Lexus with vinyl / fabric top today. Hmmmm..... it's really really really really UGLY. It was a light silver Lexus with navy blue color vinyl top.

I don't think it has any other purpose other than a styling exercise. As someone who grew up in the seventies, I can recall them everywhere. They were very popular on the land yachts of yesteryear and available as an option on most cars. In their day, I think they were initially meant to have the appearance of a convertible top, but then took on a life of their own. Surprisingly, when I see the odd Cadillac or Lincoln from the seventies with one today, they don't look too bad.

On today's cars such as a Lexus? Horrible.

You forgot about all of the old farts in Florida with these:

You beat me to the old "Landau" top, or worse, the convertible look.

Poor cars. Why would anyone torture their car thus? I hated landau tops even in the 70's when they were in vogue.
