Used NSX Purchase Advice
Used NSX Purchase Advice
Guys/Gals - I am considering my next move after the TL being a somewhat non-traditional one. I am considering getting a practical used car for day to day and hauling the kids when the Odyssey isn't avail and putting some money in to something that is classic, fast, and will all around be fun.
I have ALWAYS wanted an NSX, so I am thinking about that as an option. In addition, I can't seem to get the M Roadster out of my head as well. I am trying to stay around $25,000 and high mileage is fine as long as the car is in good shape.
Any thoughts on best approach to get an NSX or other? I'd love to have a 97+ NSX or 2002+ M3 Roadster as both got an HP boost after those years, but I think that gets me in to the upper 30's for sure.
Any other cars I should consider as a part time fun car? My brother has a Porsche, but not sure I wanna go that route if for no other reason to be different

like u said, if your getting an NSX, try to get one that is a 97+ - bigger engine of course, and an extra cog in the tranny. DEFINETELY try to get somehting that is 95 and up, since thats when they introduced the removable roof panel
Nothing like a removable roof to add to the fun

for under 30k, i don't think you can get much of an NSX.
i think the best you could hope for is a pre 95 w/ 90k+ mi. just comparing prices on nsxprime and autotrader. but the NSX is every acura enthusiast's dream. so i would say go for the NSX, i don't think there's a car you can really compare to it.

i was looking at a 91NSX with only 40k miles
with a 02 front conversion, HID, carbon fibre hood, expensive racing seats, Advan Model 5 wheels and lots of good mods
it was asking for 35k and i found it quite expensive, and i could not fit my butt into the seats......good looking summer car but not my cup of tea

For the best advise and info on NSX's, go to NSX Prime

I am gonna really have to do my research on this one and if possible I need to somehow find a way to drive an NSX. I am really enjoying my 6MT TL (even more than my TSX) so to give that up for a part time NSX + beater 4-door is going to be a big decision for me.
So folks that have driven the '91-96 vs. '97+ ... is the power difference blow your mind away different or just a bit of an edge? Is there anywhere that I can easily see a matrix of what changed with each year? (looked on NSXPrime and Edmunds some, but didn't find an easy way)
Decisions, decisions :-)

Why not buy a new S2K instead of a used NSX? 9/10ths performance of an NSX and it will be brand new out of the box.
I've gone through this dilemma too. But since the HSC will hopefully be out by '08, am thinking about enduring a little pain now, for a lot of joy later.

What's New for 1999
An Alex Zanardi Edition of the NSX is new this year, but only 50 will be made for sale in North America. The special-edition car features a fixed roof, lighter rear spoiler and manual steering in its quest to shed nearly 150 pounds. The Zanardi Edition adds BBS alloy wheels, a titanium shifter and softer red-stitched leather seats. And it wouldn't be a tribute to the CART champion without a stiffer suspension and lower height.
What's New for 2000
For 2000 the NSX gets improvements to its six-speed manual transmission, an upgraded perforated leather interior, and a cleaner engine that now qualifies it as a low emission vehicle.
What's New for 2001

What's New for 2002
For the first time since the car's introduction in 1991, Acura's midengined supercar receives a variety of styling enhancements. These include new fixed HID headlights, freshened front and rear bumpers and updated exhaust tips. Inside, six new color schemes are available. These schemes can be matched to the car's exterior color for a customized look. The center panel has also been updated with new chrome plating. Mechanically, the NSX remains unchanged, though the suspension has been retuned and larger wheels have been fitted.
What's New for 2003
There are no changes in store for Acura's supercar.
What's New for 2004
Acura's top sports car gains a trunk-mounted CD changer, keyless entry, a restyled transmission shifter knob and new gauge cluster surround trim.
What's New for 2005
The NSX continues unchanged for 2005.
The C32 is a beast of an engine; totally under rated. And the gearing of the transmission is amazing.
In the right hands they'll run low 13s /high 12s stock.
Also, 2nd gear doesn't top out until 74 mph

0-60 MPH: 4.5 to 5.2 secs (most times were below 5.0 secs)
1/4 Mi: 12.7 to 13.5 secs (most times were below 13.2 secs)
Max Top Speed: Pre 2002: 168 MPH, 2002+ 175 MPH; with a CTSC, 185 MPH is reachable.
Here are the top speeds in each gear at 8,000 RPM (redline) for a 6MT (US 97+):
Gear: MPH
1st: 47
2nd: 74
3rd: 102
4th: 130
5th: 160
6th: 202
I personally would wait until you can find a better NSX down the road for more money. Wait 3-4 years and save up to around 35,000 or so and then go out looking.
I've seen too many people get giddy about buying a used high-end car (911, NSX, CL55, etc.) only to be pissed off later when the car has one problem after the next.

So the net is ... any model NSX is going to be faster than my 6MT TL pretty noticeably ... they real question is will I be able to keep up with my brothers 2000 911 - HA
Any suggestions on how to get a test drive in an NSX? I have a feeling this is going to be harder said that done
I guess I can find the 1-2 that are for sale locally at a dealer and make like I am ready to buy to get a drive ...
What I need is a big fat $40K bonus from so I can pick up a '97 NSX tomorrow ... either that or play the lotto
