Use Your iPhone as Car Keys
Use Your iPhone as Car Keys
As crazy as it sounds, its possible. You can start the car, lock, unlock, open the trunk, an manage the car alarm. Best part... The range is infinate because it runs over the cell network. I would get this is a second, if it wasn't $300 if you already have a viper system, $500 if you dont and $30 a month (the first year is free however).
For everyone that does not believe me.

another way to have a thief steal your car. If an Iphone can send the signals over the cellular network, what stops a criminal from breaking in, swapping out the phone with one of theirs and leaving in your ride?
^ although i don't have enough background of this device/app to argue with you, but wouldn't they come up with that question themselves and have some sort of solution?? i mean if they want to sell the device for $300 and $30 annually, it's only obvious they make it very secured

Such a cool idea-using your iPhone. But what a rip-off, having it cost $30 per year. I don't understand what the $30/year fee is for. Haven't you already paid enough ($300) for the unit???? Plus, that doesn't even cover the installation cost.
Meh. I'm okay with the conventional so far. I still don't even see the need or desire for a push-button start (a la Altima et al). Maybe one day it'll be one of the I-can't-live-without/I-can't-remember-what-things-were-like-before-this features, but not right now.

. Who actually clicks on links, anyway? This reminds me of remote start - cool, but not very practical. The annual fee is BS.

Well, I was seriously considering this for my Type S. I've got the shaved handle mod, so you don't see any door keyhole on my drivers side door. This would have been a great backup-it if the battery goes out, this won't help either.
there are no car alarms that can contact me when i'm 20+ floors away from my car, but if the car communicated via the vast GSM data network it could.I do wonder what happens when you loose your iphone though... ?
You know, you gotta wonder how lazy people get. Power locks were an understandable feature. I didn't mind reaching back to unlock the rear doors in my dad's 86 Pontiac 6000.
Then the remote fob came out. No real point, it just makes the car look cool. And the keyhole is still there anyways. People are just too lazy to actually put their key into the hole.
Then keyless entry came out. People were too lazy to even take the key out of your pocket. Come on now...

Then keyless entry came out. People were too lazy to even take the key out of your pocket. Come on now...

not lazy and more than just cool. I gotta admit, before having this feature in a car I would have agreed with you. I tell you what. There is something to be said about:1. not having a physical key in your pocket (well at least not the normal type)
2. not having to take a keyfob out of your pocket every time you want to open your car, lock it or start it.
3. not having to have to put the key back in your pocket after getting out of your car (it's already there).
I know this all sounds a bit snobish, but trust me, I'm far far from it. Could I go back to a keyfob and a physical key? You betcha. For now I am enjoying the new keyless technology. It's smart.
