I have only one major problem with Nissan products. Corrosion. Any Nissan with more than 5 years on it usually has a lot of corrosion or body perforation. My company sells components like door handles, mirrors, headlight/taillight assemblies to damn near anyone automotive, and I do a lot of corrosion testing.
As corrosion is hard to judge, we have developed an internal standard, which we try to get the automotive folks to understand. We generally test in groups of ten, and make a subjective judgement as to when the group hits 15 percent red corrosion, and we note the hours elapsed in salt spray, kesternich, prohesion, or QUV (about the last three, don't ask. You don't want to know.)
Most of the folks, GM, toyota, Honda, etc go along with our line of logic, but not nissan. They want to know when their group hits NINETY PERCENT corrosion, and it usually happens at or shortly after the people mentioned above who makes good, corrosion resistant parts with a much more stringent failure point.
Another thing: when testing in groups of ten, the absolutely last thing you want to see is nine samples doing just fine and one is 100 percent corroded, and I see this alot with nissan. This smacks of a process that is not in control by the operators. When everything corrodes evenly, the corrosion control process is well defined.
Sure, things go wrong in manufacturing cleaning pretreating and plating or painting processes. A pump can quit, a nozzle can clog, and I see this from time to time even with honda and toyota. But for every one time I see it between H or T, I see it twenty times with nissan parts.
I hate corrosion, and it is the primary reason I am so high on powder coatings.

Based on some of the preliminary numbers I've seen for the Skyline, there is no way it's going to be in the same class as the G35c or even the 350z. I'm thinking this is going to be in the M3 or S4 class/price range. It would be stupid for a skyline (with all it's promising and speculative numbers) competing with the current Z or G.

That may be (from your experience) but the Skyline would more than likely be an Infiniti. That said Infiniti's corrosion coverage is 7 years/unlimited miles. But if corrosion is a concern of yours, you can always get a Pontiac. Those have enough plastic panels to make Mattel jealous.

When the GT-R comes out here, it will be an infiniti with similar characteristics as the G35. The G35 is the Nissan skyline 350GT. We can think of the G35 as the replacement for the skyline GT-S. So the GT-R should look similar to the G35 and the Z.
Also, the i doubt the GT-R would be along the lines of 50k. A brand new GT-R is around the price of an NSX. $90-100k range. That is why it is going to be introduced as an infiniti because it will be infiniti's supercar like the nsx is acuras. Or if nissan doesnt want the GT-R to be that expensive, it might be placed in the same range as an m3 and s4 for cheaper.

G35c manual is about 32-35k
I don't think the skyline is going to be a under 40k car.
if it is... maybe it will be 39999.99
What this will probably do is send the price of the 350z down quite a bit.

We should expect the GT-R to come out here as an AWD with twin turbo's and will be no where near the price of a g35 and Z. The GT-R is nissans supercar....not just any regular nissan

Zapata, I do not keep the numbers - I only read them. 2 of my trusted sources are wardsauto.com & carconnection.com - they are unbiased, so I highly recommend them. I also consider what I see on the streets, 3,5.. 10 years down the road. Acura enjoyed a good run with Legend/Integras, but with the new offerings - the passion is disappearing. I still say a 90-94 Integra beats it's own last 2 generations... hands down. Designs are butt ugly, non-inspiring and not head-turning.
I think what most could agree here... as to not why but WHEN will it take Acura to open their eyes and do something about it, knowing well how truly CAPABLE those guys are. But we do know well.. it is the direction from the TOP that designers must contend with... and what those 'oldFarts' want - they get... yes.. even if it means driving the brand into the ground... as they are doing. Also, if someone like Nissan can come in... and snatch 45,000 with their new offering - wouldn't it scratch Acura's brass heads that a 'deep refresher' is in order. To me - it's not Nissan.. it's Ghosn.. in action .

Well....I hope it's the "supercar" or the rest of the Z and G owners will be pissed...

i am guessing window sticker price should be around 60k more or less... it wont be anything under 40k because who would buy G/Z if the GTR is 40k? even at 60k the GTR will be selling just hot cakes primarily just because of the SKYLINE GTR name. expect a 10k mark up also if it ever gets here...
