US offering of Skyline GT-R

US offering of Skyline GT-R
Just heard Nissan finally deciding to finally bring Skyline GT-R in '07, meaning Oct.'06 we might see it here - it might be worth the weight. Any ideas asto hp... unless they change the luxury to hp tax... I wouldn't be surprised at 350-400hp range...
One thing is evident... Nissan is quickly becoming what Acura was originally promising to become ... It will be interesting to see how they market it vs. the Z, etc. I just thought of a new slogan for Acura... "Resting in peace" ....
"...from WardsAuto.com, SanFran, Jun 7 2004 - ...Along with the Cube, Nissan at a media event here also reiterates plans to bring the ultra-performance Skyline GT-R States-side as well. (See related story: Ghosn Promises Skyline GT-R for 2007)..."

Ghosn is one of the brightest autoExecs I've seen thus as of late - they will not kill Z, by 'ultra-performance' I sense $45-50k range with something in the Boxter/Corvette range, i.e. 4.6 - 4.9 secs 0-60 ? It could not be more expensive of what they go for in Japan.....
That will already make an 'unofficial TL coupe' an absolete.... from the day 0 .

Perhaps Nissan should first try and match Honda.....

The more I hear about how other manufacturers are doing things to promote and have their hold on the market grow, the more I get annoyed at the conservative bastards at Acura.

zapata, i think acura is not tageting there market right..
they are looking towards the older crwod like in there 40;s and up and not the people younger.
look at what happened to cadilac in the 90's, only had fwd flimsy suspension old people looking boat cars, their market share went down over 35% due to bmw and benz taking its customers

Zapata... I am just as AcuraSlave-o as you are... but you can't blame Nissan from trying... and they ARE getting it. There is nothing sweeter then an aggressive AutoHouse that RESPONDS to changes. 45,000 coupes later [Z/g35c] taken away from Acura - they will 'seal' the deal with GT-R.... even though it is probably their ubiquitous minivan's 3.5L with bi-turbos ...
Seems like GM execs are taking the Honda over ... first Toyota [yawn] and now them.
Ohh.. and don't forget, Nissan has a much better cust/service then Honda... Or more correctly... Nissan does NOT have as shitty service as Honda - to answer your q .

There has been rumors of this for a while. Last I heard it was just gonna be call the GT-R (removing the Skyline name). Somthing about having electric turbos I think. I also saw that it was gonna be around 70k. Of course these were all just rumors from a while ago. Maybe what you saw is updated.
Or maybe I'm talking about somthing else

I also heard some rumors having to do with it will be the upgrade of the g35 since the g35 is somewhat the us version of the skyline ( i think thats what they said) my friend told me this and he is one of th ebiggest importers of skylines in the US.

in addition, think of it this way,
honda being the parent company of acura, and nissan being the parent company of infinity ...
how many honda's do you see infiltrating the infinity market and causing competition between a middle class car and and upper class car. i.e. honda vs infinity
nissan on the other hand has the 350Z and hopefully the skyline gt-r and in addtion the g35 coupe and sedan on the infinity end all battling the acura lower model line up.
the way I look at it, nissan is producing vehicles based on the market trend. and so far it's paying off for them. Acura's gotta do the same, otherwise they are gonna be playing catch up.

-what products are not being targeted correctly. Honda is setting all-time sales records. You must know something Honda doesn't.
-Caddy? BMW? BENZ? thought you were talking about nissan and honda. There are more honda based RWD products available than nissan.

zap, acura just isnt coming out with cars that are going to be the hot sellers like g35c's and 350 z's.
dont get me wrong, i love my cl-s to DEATH, but the way acura styling/engineering is heading i might not ever get another acura

Yipes yer all over the place.....thought this convo was about HOnda? Also, Acura has been right on point with their cars as of late. TSX, MDX and TL are selling well. RL will undoubtly sell. CLS sold very well until current stream of performance coupes came out. Acura can't just stop mid production and respond with something. Despite it's record in the previous two years you seem to be so dismissive of Acura's ability to respond to market demand......it's their forte....give'em a chance.

Heck. Nissan has me looking at a Z....and I have owned 2 Acuras, 2 Hondas, and 1 Nissan (1985 300ZX coupe). Nissan is doing something right...Acura is gonna let too many of us Slip thru their fingers....

Zapata... things are not as rosy for Acura as it seems. Their sales ARE DOWN comparing year to year. RSX did not beat Integra in terms of acceptance, RL has dropped from luxury folks radar long time ago, CL was disontinued, so the only model that sold reasonably well was TL. I did not log the numbers from previous years - but they are dramatically down. Nice to see the new models are picking up pace.
Also, it is a 1st year I believe that Honda overall had 13-15% LESS sales then a year before - something new for a Honda, since mostly they are used to growth year after year. Although I purchased 04 accord for my parents - let's face it... the models are getting 'dull' - i.e. not as exciting as say a 87-90 accords.
Inasmuch as I adore Acuras... Infiniti with all their new choices will just make Acura seem less adequate in performance AND value, while Acura's top brass' ignorance will only HELP it. Let's also not forget - we are talking about TOP LUXURY BRAND here... as Infiniti pulls closer to Lexus in levels of refinement.... where is Acura's 'excitement' that most of us here are 'expecting' but getting less & less of... ??
Personally, I believe it comes from the TOP... Honda is less hungry then before... Nissan IS hungry... they were at the verge of bankruptsy for goodness sake... I will reiterate thoughts of a few others here... Do you truly think Acura could pull it off? I highly doubt it.. judging by their new designs such as RL... Nissan on the other hand is quite smart.. i.e. exporting a GT-R - i.e. something that requires almost zero redevelopment... - it's kind of like getting something for nothing, marketing in US -wise... Certainly an interesting time we live in ...

Well from what I came across I read somewhere in one of the tuner mags the sketch that they were portraying as the GT-R model to hit the US was very similar as that of the G35c Except it seem that it was wider on the sides and the lines look a bit more aggressive. As for power It will be an upgrade of G35c version that will produce somewhat close to 450-500 hp range from what they were saying its target to compete against get this is (FERRARI)?!!!!!!!!!

I love my cl-s as well as the next member in here but from what I see Acura needs to come out with someting fast to compete in the coupe class that nissan and infinity have a hold over.
I think my next car 07 GT-R!!!!!!

OK where are the numbers to justify your statements??

Nissan/Infinity is now going to have 3 cars in almost the same category (coupe rwd).
350z, G35c, and Skyline GT-R
the BASE 350z is about 28k all the way up to mid 30's
G35c manual is about 32-35k
I don't think the skyline is going to be a under 40k car.
if it is... maybe it will be 39999.99
What this will probably do is send the price of the 350z down quite a bit.

More remarkable is that MDX sales are strong despite the fact that its competition (sort of, RX330 and FX35) are brand new models; although IMO a lot of that has to do with the MDX's better utility versus the other two.
Back to the GT-R, a 2007 model year would lead me to believe that it would be built on an R36 platform as opposed to the R35 (current G35). The R35 will be 6 y/o by the 2007 m/y; Nissan typically cycles platforms between 4-5 model years. (Maybe Nissan will change the cycle ) So its anyone's guess how the R36 GTR will look or even which powerplant it will run.
Peace.

Hey,
The pic that njpdiddy posted from EVO magazine looks awfully a lot like the Skyline GT-R concept they showed at the Detroit Autoshow back in 2001. I remember seeing it in person and thought, "This is the Skyline that tuners drool over? What happened to that car that's in GT3?"
Again -- looks like a concept and probably it'll be brought out as an R36, totally bypassing the R35. This is only my thoughts ... nothing to back me up. (Reasoning: why would they bring out the GT-R on a 6 yr old chassis?)

If you look at the pic that njpdiddy posted, it looks like the jap skyline/us g35c though of today
look at the lines along the window, the side window shape, even looking at the taillights, (which you can't see in that pic, but i've seen other shots of the concept) look like the g35coupe in an abstract sense.
so it's been in the works for quite some time, just have to wait and see what they do.
