I like that sticker, I think it's pretty.
If it offends you that much, then help me install a Super Charger on my car to make it legit, otherwise, let me have my fun.
Maybe I'll just install a Subwoofer and say that's what the S stands for. I've got some quality Peerless brand subwoofers just sitting on a shelf in my garage, and an OK amp... I don't need to make my car sound like a herd of farting elephants - one good quality 10" sub can give you good sound and hard hitting bass. You don't need dual 15's and 4,000 WATTs of power that suck out glass eyeballs because actual music doesn't have that kind of bass in it....

Whatever, you do you. The response you're getting was exactly as expected though.

Depends who you ask and if they have prior knowledge on AMG vehicles. Here's my take on it. A real AMG starts off with a one man, one engine philosophy. Hand build engines with the technicians name placed on the engine cover (FANCY!) The 450 / 43 do not fall under this philosophy. Still touching on the engines, AMG's are know to have bigger motors but they have been downsizing them from 6.3 N/A engine to the 5.5 BiTurbo to now the 4.0 V8 BiTurbo engine. Still getting around the same power but better fuel economy and hopefully better reliability. The "Baby" AMG engines are the 3.0 V6 BiTurnbo (450/43 models) and the very impressive 2.0L (AMG45). Moving past the engine, the 450 / 43 models still have AMG features like Airmatic suspension, AMG Brembo brakes, AMG 4Matic AWD, AMG Tuned exhaust system, AMG drive settings ects. So they still make it somewhat AMG but without the cost of a bigger engine and it cost 100K+ . Mercedes is trying to push more buyers into their AMG line. Here's from my personal experience. My daily is an ML350 and it has just about 130K. The production number is 962 (1st 1000 built as a new gen) so needless to say, it has had ALL the common issues, except for one... just waiting... It's an awesome ride, super quiet and I love it. So two years ago, my wife and I decided we should look into getting her an SUV because the Optima, low life + NJ winter wasn't ideal, so we looked at a few ML's. We drove the ML550, ML400 and the bad ass ML63. I really wanted the 63 and we saw a few in person. Over time, I reviewed carfax reports and asked members on a Mercedes forum about what to expect on owning one, I decided the 63 was a bit much for us. 5.5 BiTurbo is great but the fuel economy (real numbers) was crap. Things like the injectors failing, some had turbo failures (all before 60K) turned me off. For whatever reason, MOST owners were replacing tires and brakes way before 20K. No thanks..
The ML550 had better fuel economy and was over all better in maintenance. We drove the Ml400 (priced at that time WAY TO HIGH) which is the same engine the 400, 450 and 43 use but it didn't do anything for me. Fast forwarding Mercedes came out with the 450 / 43 line. I was excited about the line up. We went to Mercedes and drove the GLC43, which was a really nice SUV but had nearly no trunk space. Wife said no. We drove the GLE450 Coupe, I didn't care of it, especially those over sized wheel and the lack of the view from the real glass, but the wife loved it. In the end, if it was up to me, it would be GLE400 w/tune or find a GLE450 SUV (There's currently only one in the U.S. right now and i'm watching it) or get the GLE43 when they are two years old. The thing that still worries me, from reading on the forums, some people have experienced Airmatic suspension failures and LED headlight issues with other misc issues. So.. I'll hold off til I see if this is getting resolved at some point. At least the GLE 400 does come with standard suspension, so i'm leaning towards of the vehicle with less to go wrong.

I almost got a C43 AMG but was turned off by owners with so many issues with it. Fuel line leaks, AC failures, engine and transmission problems. Alot of people are complaining that it's due to them being built in the U.S. I'm not buying that reason.

As you said, the cars themselves are great and as such, I'd say they are "real" enough for me. At the end of the day, the car makes the badge. The badge does not make the car.

Well C43 is C450 and it competes with 340i or M340i in 2019.
If you think C450/C43 and 340i/M340i is real AMG and M cars, then that is your call.
Is C43's V6TT from AMG division? I know M340i's I6T is not from M Division.

No, it's not. And I'm not sure what other applications (aside from E/GLC/GLE/whatever 43 AMG models) use it either. As far as I know, it's the entry to the AMG level.

I'd have no qualms with the C43, since a C63 is quite outside my budget.
Odds are, it'd get debadged anyway, so the AMG badges would end up on my toolbox in my garage.

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
The difference is MB offers some of their cars with an "AMG" package that comes with wheels, suspension, and a few other bits that are dressy/sporty but without the AMG engine. BMW offers the "M Sport Package" like MB does, some nice bits but not a true M. Both are from the factory. My SpecB Subaru was a specB from the factory.
So Type S on a TLX? meh.

Considering that a lot of the newer Mercedes models are having issues at such an early stage and mileage I'm starting to get turned away from owning one.
Now I have other vehicles in mind like the Ford Explorer Sport, Ford Edge sport, Jeep Grand Cherokee (srt8), BMW X5 and yes the Porsche Macan S all-wheel drive.
I've seen Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT version in person but the dealership would not let me drive it unless I was willing to buy it. I have not driven any of the Ford models but what we doing so at some point this year.
I've been doing a lot of research on all the vehicles from Facebook groups to enthusiasts forums. Funny thing is the Porsche Macan seems to be the most reliable. More or less Gathering from carfax report and what I'm gathering on the forms.
Each of the vehicles we are considering all have their pros and cons but we just want the best bang for buck vehicle. I'm leaning more and more towards a used 2016 Macan s. The prices are dropping and are coming into our budget. My only concern is the trunk space I have a feeling it's going to be as tight as a Mercedes GLC.
So towards the end of the year we will go from dealer to dealer.
SORRY boss,
Tequila with coffee was a bit extreme this morning, when I posted.

Just buy a 2 year old X5M with a good extended Warranty and save yourself the headache. That is what i would do if i were in the market to BUY an SUV.
None of those cars you mentioned come close in terms of performance and technology. Not to mention the experience owning a true M.
The prerequisite is you must get a good extended warranty. Not saying it is reliable or not, but it does cost a lot to fix.

I have been wandering through this thread.
Since I now lease a TLX as a daily driver, does that mean I hate cars now?
I'll just turn in my "car guy" credentials now. Anyone want my NSX or CTS-V wagon? Then I'll let myself out.
I am shocked to see Acura at the bottom of this particular pile. Must be a bunch of pissed off ILX owners.....that car is definitely a pile of crap. The 2018 TLX A-Spec, though....definitely not crap. I admit to liking the new grille (no beak, yay!), big round exhausts and the blacked out trim on my Still Night Blue. Makes the TLX look better, at least.

I don't like how the TLX has those complete fake exhaust tips. I know. Literally everyone does it these days also. It's just something I wish dies off soon enough and reverts to actual nice tips again. I know. Hopeful wishing
I've noticed the occasional A-Spec around town, and I must admit, overall, it is a much more striking car than before. I definitely do a double glance these days when I see one. I don't 100% love all the details of the car but overall it really has the looks I'm glad Acura is getting back to. The sporty, sharp lined designs, like they used to have with the 3G TL and 1G TSX. The A-Spec really looks like the successor to the 3G.

I saw an A-Spec today. They need to dump the bug-eyes. They don't look good and they don't look premium.

I think it's safe to say they won't be going anywhere, for awhile. Consider it the new beak for this decade. Just not as nearly as bad. Not nearly at all. They do make the headlights look really busy though. I dunno. I think it's a love/hate kind of look. Considering sales numbers, I think people generally like them. I feel kind of indifferent to them myself- I don't care if they stay and I wouldn't care if they were axed. They do really stand out, though.

I totally get the marketing gimmicks but it's not up to us as consumers to decide what is and isn't part of the performance line. At least BMW differentiates with a different naming scheme but MB just tosses the AMG badge on everything they can because it makes them a ton of money. It's not just those two though, everyone does it. You can get a base model S-Line Audi, a V Sport Caddy, a F Sport Lexus, R Line VW, R-Design Volvo, etc... Nothing new about it.

I can't put my finger on why the jewel eyes also give me that buggy impression but the MDX especially looks like a giant spider. With that being said I actually really love the jewel eyes and I love that Acura took the LED craze and made it their own rather than some generic straight LED line on the top/bottom of the headlight. I actually like the ones on the civic and accord more though, they look more premium to me.

RDX10,
Thanks for the response. The Cayenne seems a bit much to me. It's a beautiful SUV, just not my cup of tea. I haven't sat in a Macan yet, but I prefer the GLE's interior over the Macan. Here's a Macan that has everything we want.

This is the GLE 450 that has what we want minus the exterior color. (The only 450 SUV model in the US right now)

Never thought I'd say this about the TLX, but you're TLX A-spec is beautiful. Wish they did more of improvements, but I think they are stepping in the right direction again. Let just hope they have some plans for under the hood.

TLX is fine but selling it for what it isn't was the problem. That and slapping fake Type S stickers on the trunk lol.
I agree with this point of view. I really think mercedes should have named the 43 AMG models something else because it really diminishes what the "true" AMG modes are. They really ruined the exclusivity to me.In terms of the ML, I really like what they have done with the latest model but it doesn't drive the way I like so wouldn't be high on my list to be honest.
See this is where I have my issue. It is easy to tell an M-sport or f-sport or s-line apart from a true M,F,S model so it bothers me that they didn't differentiate better.
Why a Macan and not a later model cayenne? The 2011+ models have been pretty bullet proof and I personally LOVE the styling (Literal dream car would be a 2011 turbo S). Much better trunk space and most likely passenger space as well vs the macan. Though I suspect the Macan will hold better resale value (just look at the Q5 vs the Q7) than the cayenne but buying used you are really winning on that end. What I love about more recent P-cars is that they are REALLY reliable. It's almost like having your cake and eating it too!

Also, Porsche is routinely at the top end of the reliability scale. The problem isn't that it breaks down often, the problem is that when it does break down...well you better bring your platinum card.

They are lucky or haven't had the car very long. My Neighbor has a quadrifoglio and has had not one issue with it. I still don't trust it nor would I get one. Some people get lucky but you will have a larger chance of running into expensive issues.

Put everything else aside I actually like the look of TLX A spec when i saw them in person. Matter of fact, if Acura can put a more competitive engine and better tech in it, i might even consider switching.
But knowing what we know, TLX A spec just came out too little too late.

The real question is Is your TLX a Type S?

Just as offensive to me as if McDonald's tried to use pigeon shit on a bun instead of hamburgers to increase profits. I'm so sick and tired of corporations behaving badly and getting away with it.

I must admit, I'm totally tired of guys putting badges on their car that shouldn't otherwise be there, in hopes of fulfilling a want they can't have.

I have issues though, I'm currently saving for a Scat Pack which is like 38k, but.......

How about the TLX A spec + the rumored V6T and SHAWD at $40k - $45k? that is the car i am talking about.

I don't think it's OK for companies to do that, like the brand Pyrex got bought out and instead of the proper heat resistant tough glass they used to make Pyrex products out now it's just ordinary glass exploiting the Pyrex reputation.

Give it a good exhaust note and I'd be in for that. Give it a manual and I'll send in my deposit tonight.

Curious since there are so few current/new Acura sedan owners in Car Talk.
