Unhappy With Your Acura?

According to Consumer Reports, yes, love them or hate them, Acura is at the bottom of the satisfactory list. Wow!

I think we are just better educated consumers now...
maybe back in the day when a car was just intended to get in and drive there was less criteria to critique...you picked a nice shape, wasn't in the shop too often, was decently fun to drive and safe. #1!!!!!!!!

well, Acura COULD have a great product. it's just that they don't.
the company's culture has to change. They have to start caring!
we will see with the new RDX if the culture has changed. if it's the same bad management, you'll get the same bad products

I think if there was more aftermarket support and a manual transmission option and more aggressive styling and a lower pricepoint...
wait a minute...

I could save the brand

Not all that surprising. All you need to do is look around Car Talk and you'll realize most of us do not own an Acura and haven't for some time now. I think that speaks volumes right there about the larger issue...

Acura owners aren't satisfied because they can't be Acurazine mods.

I heard he is looser than loose. Many people say he is the loosest.

Not surprised by the Acura or Audi positions on that list Will the new RDX help Acura stop its downward spiral?

The real shocker on that list is Tesla at #1. They come in dead last by a long shot on all of the reliability index scores.

Maybe it's really a measure of self-satisfaction. We know that most people buy TLX's out of self-loathing.

For a long time Acura fan it's sad but not surprising, IMO the trans issue on the TLX is what has done them in.. Now some may say that Acura has corrected the issue and that's great, but it took them almost two years which was plenty of time for their reputation to take a massive hit.

And Acura deserves it because of how piss poorly they treated their customers. And a lot of these customers were long time repeat Acura customers who now have already left, or will switch brands as soon as they can.. And once they leave, it's very rare they will come back.

IMO it will be a long time, if ever, that Acura is able to build their reputation back to where it was...

30 is such a weird number. I wonder if CR did 30 to shame Acura.

Also, isn't there some "fanboyism" involved in a survey like this?

Geez, I'm a critic of Acura as much as anyone but they're not that bad. I'd take most Acuras over at least half of those brands in a heartbeat. Especially Nissan and Dodge.

I can only speak for myself, and I do...lol butt Acura could do so much better!

Acura sold out to become a vanilla people mover, instead of what made them cool, hip, hop, hippopotamus, or whatever.

Cult classics are classics for a reason!

I would buy a pre-owned GTR or a pre-owned Charger Scat Pack or Hellcat in a heartbeat over anything Acura has...

I think the 2018 TLX styling is spot on - people that I show the car to in person really are impressed and say it is beautiful. It's less pedestrian than the older TL/TSX/Legend etc. models but not garish and overdone like the Civic Type R.

They simply need to make a ~$37,000 - $40,000 model (in the "base" trim) that actually has performance to challenge cars like the Audi S4, Kia Stinger, and Civic Type R. Take the current TLX and put in a 3.0T (Turbo) engine with a "performance tuned" suspension and the 8 speed DCT and you're done, you have the car that gives Acura back it's credibility with car enthusiasts and magazine reviewers. It would be a car that the reviewers would test, and then say: "if I were choosing between this car, the Audi xx or the BMX xx, this would be the car I would buy with my money..." That is what Acura needs to fix ti's image problem. And, I suppose they need to make it clear that they want to treat their customers right, like they did with me the other day by overnight shipping a Remote Start Kit to my dealer after I called Customer Care to complain that "we don't know when the part will be available" was not a satisfactory answer to a first time new Acura owner (me).

Again, I think there is a bit of fanboyism responsible for some of those ratings. Take a look at the top three.

Tesla: I imagine that some Tesla drivers are the trendsetting type that may be into impresses people with their (actual or perceived) cleverness, hipness, tech-saviness, or taste. Having a Tesla (now) is cool BTW. I also imagine that some of the Tesla owner respondents wouldn't dare say anything negative about their Model S or X, as it also is an extension of their identity.

Porsche: Porsche owners are cool. I have a friend with a 911 Carrera 4S (which I drove last weekend in fact) and he fits the description of a probable Porsche owner; has a passion for fast, timeless sports cars but don't want to be overt about it. Porsche owners are fans, much like Corvette owners. Present them with a survey about how much they like their car...?

Genesis: Owners of this not-so-newly minted luxury brand absolutely love what Hyundai is pulling off. So much so that they are early adopters. I imagine that it is cool to drive a G80, G90, or even the previous Hyundai Genesis sedan for much less than German rivals and (arguably) still enjoy the same level of style and features. I mean, what's not to like about that? What owner would give those bonafides bad marks?

Can you assign any of these attributes to Acura owners? The new Acura owner, IMO, is a sensible person that is not all that much of a car person. Give them a survey and you'll get the unfiltered truth, because to them it's just a car.

Well of course. I was speaking of standard "consumer grade" cars. Not the 100K uber models and $65K models with 700+hp. If that's where we're competing, then you'll want to compare it to the NSX.

I'm talking Nissan Altimas and Maximas, Dodge Chargers and 300's.

Hear hear.

Teslas are known for their horrible reliability, service/parts delays, and the interior is way under for the price they charge (of course they are a unique car so I give them that). But those who love Teslas....love them to death.

Porsche/Corvette definitely agreed as well. Very good cars, not knocking the cars, but the fans who do love these cars...yeah watchout if you say anything bad.

I bought my 06 TL from a university professor who is married to a lawyer, their son works in Honda coporate, they just upgraded to a RDX for more room/space and have 0 interest in sport/enthusiast cars....

My wife says the feeling of the ride quality (in the back seat) of our new Acura is drastically better than various Hondas she's tried at work (including Odyssey and CRV). The fit & finish of our new Acura is far superior to the 2017 Subaru Impreza we own, and, the Acura has less significant defects than the 2014 Toyota Sienna I owned previously.

If it was "just a car" I would have gone with the Honda Accord - if the 2018 Acura TLX were not far more than a boring transportation device to get me from point A to B, I would not have bough it. I resent that Acura has built in some kind of throttle lag to my car, and I also resent that I do not get significantly more performance out of my TLX than one would out of a 2018 Honda Accord 2.0T, but, aside from those complaints, the car is spectacular.

Damn. Tesla's are unreliable? I was hoping to pick up a used one in a few years when the TL starts to age. Guess I'll have to do more homework. I swore my next car would be electric but I'm not real hot on driving a leaf or spark.

Honda's got the new Insight coming out. We'll see how that goes.

Well, this may come to what you accept to deal with, vs money.

15 years ago, no contest, gimme German. Zero interest in the 2002 TL-S. Would spend more and I sure did,

Now 15 years later, I find my TLX V6 a car that I would buy again. And no, I am not interested to spend +$200/mo to get an overpriced Jetta. BTW upcoming 2019 Jetta is very promising.

Yet I will recognize that Acura as a brand is in much weaker proposition than it was. Guess what? I don't care - I really love my TLX V6 (and it wasn't obvious at the beginning).

Look at the CR reliability and also reddit posts are abundant with people reporting lots of things go wrong with the Tesla and the service can be delayed with parts not getting in on time, etc. Door handles and other things that go wrong.

I would hope that an Acura has better fit and finish than a Subaru Imprezza. A car that starts under $20K in base/stripper trim should not compete with a $38K car. As having been a Subaru and Acura owner (even those were much older cars), there was a distinct difference. The problem with Acura is they are charging a premium for a vehicle that is not as good as an Infiniti or Lexus, but they think they can compete there.

They are really not in the BMW/Audi territory, and are surviving on SUV sales. Without the mocha-latte-frappachino-bullshit-in-a-cup crowd, Acura would have went out of business a while ago.

Yet I will recognize that Acura as a brand is in much weaker proposition than it was. Guess what? I don't care.
Dude, nothing wrong with that. While I'm not in love with the currently lineup, and doubt my next car will be an Acura, I really like my 4G. Much more than I though I initially would.

Almost all of my neighbors drive German vehicles. Guy to the east of me drives a '16 135i, guy to the west drives a '15 335xi. Across the street drives an older S4. Guessing early 2000's. We talk shop sometimes, especially the guy with the 335 since he's an engineer and tinkers around with his car like I do. It's common to see either one of us with the car jacked up or hood open. We respect each others' car choices. The '16 BMW 3's are sexy looking cars. No denying that. His is blue with matte black wheels. I mentioned to him that Acura was essentially a glorified Honda. He replied by admitting that might be true, but that his BMW would likely be recycled into nails and paper clips in 10 years while mine's still on the road. Had to chuckle a bit at that. He already had his turbo go out and replaced under warranty.

We're on the same page with the "family wagons" though. I have a Pilot and he's got an MDX

Like most four rings owners, apparently, I'm a lot happier than the average car buyer with my overpriced, rear-wheel biased jetta.

Even though it's closer to a Passat...and a lot better. And not at all truly related to either of them. And Saintor is idiot. And he can go fuck himself.

I can't remember the last time anyone recommend any Acura to anyone in real life...with the exception of MDX.

vs. 15 or 20 years ago.... if you wanna buy a new car, RSX, Integra, CL, TL would have been mentioned 1 way or the other.

Shit just realized it has been that long... so we are suprised that Acura is the Acura today? after decade of milking their past success?
