Transporting a fleet
Transporting a fleet
I finally purchased all of my 15 passanger vans; however, I know have to get them across the country. Does anybody work for/own/know somebody in the transporting business? The current quote I have is $800-$850/van-multiply that out by 16 vans, and I am looking at a serious chunk of change and would like to see if I could save some money.

I have already decided to drive a couple of them myself to the closer locations.
From where to where? When do you need them moved? Do you want them trucked or is it okay to drive them?
If it's cross-country, keep in mind you'll usually have to pay to get the driver (or transport vehicle) to the starting point, then pay for the return trip. Few transport companies do one-ways, since they don't usually have locations in both places.
So, even if you pay people to drive them, you have airfare to the starting point, possibly motel costs, food, and time compensation before you take into account gas for the vehicles. And then you have to get the drivers back home if they're not from the destination location.
Lots of retired folks do transport drives, and often for low daily compensation, but you do have to get them there and back. Factor in a couple hundred minimum for airfare, a couple hundred for motel stays, a hundred for food, a couple hundred for gas ... and suddenly the $800-850 looks pretty good!

True, the liability would be an issue.
One think compaines put in place is is just the cost of fuel. Companies charge by what the national fuel surcharge index is and for our trucks we charge around $.34 cents a mile, so if you moving a van 1000 miles there's $340.00 just in fuel charges.
This site has a bunch of companies, maybe one will work for you.
Good luck!

They are going all over central (Chicago area, KS, TN) and eastern US (NJ, VA) from here in Central TX. It doesn't matter if they are loaded on a transport or driven-as long as they are insured by the person moving them. We would like to see them moved soon.

Yeah, I second just getting the pros to do it & not worrying about it. You're going to spend a ton of time trying to work out another plan & you'll probably just find out that biting the bullet was the best way to go.
