traded in the car for this used car

i was trying to decide what to get in the 13k range for a car. it had to get good gas mileage be foreign and have 4 doors.
the only cars i could think of were the accord 99-01, or camry 01-02. and this little gem was dropped into my lap when searching teh net.
so i searched for more and this seemed to be the best for the price. it was 13k and has 71k on the clock. best of all i got 15,500 for my rl. so i didnt have to pay tax on this.
the wife and i are going to be buying a house in the spring, so i needed something cheaper and better on gas.
the things i do miss are the auto dimming mirror and heated seats, but at this price, no complaints. plus the blue color is pretty rare and i wanted a non gold/silver car this time.

it's a '99 and i have to go back to the dealer to take care of a few things.

I drove one of those a while back. I was really impressed with how quiet and smooth it was - it was a '99 and was a gf parents car. She wanted to drive my CL so we swapped cars. I remember going over a speed bump at like 30 mph and not feeling anything - so I turned around to take it again at a considerably faster speed - it just floated over - no no floated is what a Caddy would do - and it was way more buttoned down to the road than a Caddy. Anyways, nice ride for a good price. They are reliable and last a long time as well. Plus it has a little snob appeal going for it. Oh BTW, the Lexus I drove was gold so you don't have to worry that the one I tried to beat on is the one you just bought.

everyone here is trading up, but trading down wasnt so hard.

one of the biggest differences in the sound of the motor inside the car.
my rl i could hear it pretty well, esp when starting it.
but this thing you can barely tell it's on or even starting

Congrats.

My dad has a '93 he bought from the people he bought his house from. They had it for sale at a steal of a price, and my dad figured why not (they loved my mom's ls400, so get two in the stable.)

The car has been ROCK SOLID. has 131K on it now...still feels like new.

I personally don't love driving it...but it is a great car.

I "traded down" when I bought my pathfinder a month ago.

It's nice still have my CL at the moment, but when I sell it this month bye bye to the best of both worlds.

Trading isnt horrid. I miss some things, but I know I will have my time in the sun again

the only big issue is a rattling noise in the passenger front. took it to a local muffler/strut shop and they recommended to replace the struts, so i called the stealship and mentioned this, so i go on tues and i'll see what happens. there are a few minor things that need to be taken care of, but for the price i'll put up with it til they fix em

I've read that those ES300/Camry V6's are prone to having oil sludge buildup and seize if you don't change the oil rigorously.

Lexus offered in good faith an 8y/unlimited mile warranty on the engine so if it should happen you're still covered.

Usually in the oil pan I guess or if blue smoke comes from the exhaust they say. BTW I found this on google about it: http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...12/035635.html

I'd love to have an ES that thing rides like a couch on wheels. Down a bit on fun factors but...
So what are the savings you were after anyway, beside better fuel eco ? Is it a big difference ?
Between the RL and this one you netted from the trade what $3K ?

i owed 15,500 on the rl, the gas mileage on the rl was 20 mpg tops, and the es will be closer to 27-30 mpg and a little cheaper on maintanance like tires, etc.

oh we are buying a house in the spring so my payment is almost half of the rl

What year was the RL???

Nice new car, by the way. That thing will last a long time if you take care of it.
