Totaled the TL...looking to purchase another
Hey guys,
I am pretty depress right now, I just got into a car accident and it was my fault. Nobody was hurt if you are wondering, the TL is built very well I came out without a scratch. My 07 TL Royal Blue is totaled with only 4700 miles on it; I was scheduling my first oil change. This was my second totaled car I n 6 months, so I am pretty mad at myself right now.
Anyway, the reason I am writing this thread is because I want your advice on my purchase of my next car. I am looking for something under $17,000 OTD with good mpg. Here are several cars that I was thinking about:
-Honda Civic LX
-Toyota Corolla
-Nissan Versa
-Scion xd (or xb)
I was considering getting another TL or another entry level luxury car like the G35 sedam or the CTS but my insurance will just be to high.
Please give me your opinion on what car to purchase next. Pros and Cons on the given cars are greatly appreciated. If you have any car in particular that you recommend, please let me know. Thank you,
PS: Sorry for the grammatical errors

Sorry to hear that. Glad your ok. 2 cars in 6 months? Are you doing stupid things or just bad luck?
Out of those the civic gets my vote. But it's a small car, if you crash that one you may not walk away.

Given the recent streak of bad luck I'd suggest something bigger with an ample crumple zone.
I'd recommend a 2G TL. It's dirt cheap now and so long as you find a decent one should serve you trouble free for years to come. Work off your insurance rate for a few years and then get something else.

I think the first thing you should do is call your insurance company and beg for mercy....and some vasoline....Your next insurance bill is gonna hurt.
Then I would ask them which cars have the lowest insurance rating and work that way.

It should help you avoid accidents in the future.

Honestly, wouldnt most insurance companies drop someone with two totals in 6 months?
Buy a bicycle. Seriously.
Or, put your car cost down to $10,000...cuz you'll probably need the rest to pay your insurance premium. Oh, and don't forget about that hefty premium over the next 5 years too. Save up.
Honestly, if you're even able to find a company that will insure you (and if the high premium is even worth the cost of driving/convenience for you), I would get the vehicle that costs cheapest to insure, as NSXNEXT suggested. I wouldn't bother making your own list of what cars you want, I'd pay attention to their list.
It's going to be A LOT cheaper for you to find an alternative mode of transportation for the next few years until your rates drop.

Have you looked at the Honda Fit? It's a great car IMHO. I test drove one and it's quite fun to drive even though it does lack power.

Just to join the chorus here, if you're in an urban area where it's possible, take the train, light rail, bus, etc. If not, a bicycle will work-- more efficient and economical in every way, in addition to minimizing your driving issues.
Otherwise, get a USED car that your insurer's assigned/specialty risk pool will insure.
Oh, and take a high performance street driving course, or join the SCCA so you can become better acquainted with the limitations of cars and drivers. You will have fun and learn to deal with emergency situations at the same time.
G/L!
