Today sucked
Today sucked
Had my first accident ever.
A motorcycle accident. My fault. Lane splitting and clipped a brand new lexus, went down. I took the ENTIRE front end off the lexus and my bike rode away with a worn down frame slider and scraped foot peg, yup, that's it. For once Moto 1 v. Car 0
Total damage to bike <$200. Total to lexus:

Something or someone told me to wear full gear today when I woke up.
It paid off, I walked away from the accident unscathed and exploded spaghetti leftovers in my backpack that I was going to eat for lunch
My insurance rates are gonna own me come renewal time.

Thanks for reading

Youre alive and well. Glad to hear that man.
Think of it this way, at least you made it spectactular when you went down. Would have sucked to say you clipped a mirror and that was that.

Glad to hear you are ok. Lane splitting is something that always scared me when i had my rocket, buddies would do it but i stayed put especially since it is illegal here. I have heard it is legal in traffic in CA, is that true?

Yes, lane splitting is legal in California, and common.
OP NiteQwill said the accident was his fault, but I notice on the I-10 in LA that a lot of the car/truck drivers have no clue that they should use mirrors and signals when changing lanes-- which is not reassuring to motorcyclists splitting lanes.
Thanks guys.
Deductible is only $350. I have full coverage, so I'm not worried about that too much. Just my rate will increase in September, oh well.
It happen at pretty low speed (10-15mph), but I could have easily been ran over by the truck to the right.
I just simply ran out of room. I assumed I could pass these two large vehicles. It was a bad judgement call. It could have been worse (ran over, squished, etc.).
Moto gear FTW
The involved drivers were nice. Insurance should play its role just fine.
My only rant is police took nearly 40 minutes to respond. :wtf:
Overall, it's probably the best accident anyone should never have.

Glad you're OK. Lane splitters are definitely one of the things I stay on the lookout for when driving in Cali. I can understand why the bikers want it, but I can also understand why it's illegal most places.
with luck, they will not raise your rate. I was in CA a couple years ago and I felt like a total dork sitting in traffic while the CA riders were splitting lanes. But I sure as hell was not going to do that, esp since my g/f who rides was with me.
you know, i constantly move out of the way for fools lane splitting....
but honestly i've been waiting for the day i see a lane splitter go down, i mean, its inevitable really...
was it during rush hour nite?

I came off my 600RR a couple years ago, on the interstate... going about 75MPH, when a truck dropped a ladder in my lane in front of me.
Probably the most frightning experience of my life. I walked away completely un-scathed, because of my gear. Although, I couldn't walk for 2 days afterwards because every single bone in my body hurt... lol

A lot of motorcycles have a hard time sittting in traffic when it's hot out, without overheating...
glad your ok. when i was in Cali i didnt konw about the land splitting and bikes, scared the hell out of me when 2-3 bikes passed me when i was standing still on one of the highways near riverside. im pretty sure its illegal in chicago, i understand the benefit, but i would be scared trusting my life in other drivers hands.

I always told my ex that it wasn't so much him that I was worried about when he was riding...it's other drivers!
Glad to see you came out of this OK. Bummer on the insurance hit.
At least the other drivers were cool. Here in Japan, lane splitting is not exactly legal while traffic is moving, but it is condoned none the less. And people with these monster size "scooters" rush through and take mirrors out constantly.
I think your Army training gave you an assist (wearing all your gear, thinking safety. I was active for 9 years so I can relate)

The bike was only a few $$ in damage. All to the frame slider and foot peg. I tore apart the bike yesterday to check for hidden damage and it is in great shape. Rides just as good. I'll be keeping the bike.
I won't be riding it until the insurance thing gets settled though.

Weak. You should have aimed for a BMW, at least they would have deserved it.
It's nice to get old, and maybe a little smarter!
