Thoughts on new M5....

http://bmwforums.com/showthread.php?threadid=190

Off the hook. So much more aggressive looking than the older design.

I'd post pics from that thread but since they HAVE to be hosted and can't be attached, somebody else can do it. :o

Agreed.. current version is just too hot

I still hate the rear of the new 5 series... sooo ugly, but that M5 is pretty sweet... especially from the front.

I think it looks very bold. The tail lights still look funny at certain angles but thats okay because it has a V10

I'm not a fan of the new body styles at all. As has been said repeatedly, the front looks fine but the trunk is all messed up.

Nice car, but the current styling doesn't wake me up the way the previous M5 does. Anyone ever watch the collection of those BMW Short Films called "The Hire"? Loved the way they threw that M5 around, let alone jumped it off an exit ramp.

I like the car backwards and forwards. I really don't think that it looks bad at all.

Has anyone delt with that i-Drive thing yet? Is it as bad as I have heard?

I'm with you, mange.....the trunk is hideous no matter how they try and serve it up. Don't care much for the rear of the 6 series either. Banglizing should be a crime punishable by death.

The current M5 is awesome but the new one is just plain sick. Hopefully, I will have won the lottery by the time it hits US Dealers.

That car is the shit, but its sad that Mercedes is increasing displacement and upping horses on all their amg lines. Twin turbo v12's and and supercharged v8's from benzo are no joke. But i bet this car will out handle them and just be a better all around performer. Good thing is that the old M5 should drop down a lil in price and people will be able to puck one up for a reasonable price compared to the used ones now.

FOR PEOPLE WHO SAY "BENZ IS BETTER THAN BMW, LOOK MORE HORSEPOWER!! " (had to do the all caps thing, sorry)
No shit shirlock, slap a turbocharger or a supercharger on any engine and you'll make horsepower, but BMW's are strait up NA. Take that Supercharger (I think) away from the E55 and the current M5 will leave tire treads all over it. Just look at the M3. 3.3L 333hp and its NATURALLY ASPIRATED. Not to mention the fact that you can't get a stick in a Benz. This new M5 should be awsome. Hopefully they stick with performance and keep the iDrive out of it. At least the 5 series version isn't that bad with only 4 directions. Not to mention, as stated before, that BMW's are probably one of thee best handling cars on the road. Not to mention their awsome clutches and sticks (My fathers 17 year old 325 is' stick feels better than some new cars with manual transmission).
Yes, I know that BMW's aren't the best car EVER, they do have some flaws, but I hate when people talk shit about M's comparing them with AMG's and say "Look, Mercedes has more horsepower. Durrrr" No shit, force induct any car and you can make tons of power, but to build a car thats all motor is something else. Plus, Mercedes quality is in the Shitter right now so, thats just more food for thought.

I'd like to see a road course comparison test between the E55, RS6 and current M5. Personally, i'd bet on the M5; balance has to account for something.

The latest Autoweek says that BMW will resort to supercharging and turbos in the near future to keep pace with AMG.

I highly doubt that will ever happen. I've talked with the product manager for the M division from BMW NA and he's said they will not turbo or supercharge the any M cars in the near future if at all.

Plus, until it comes officially out of BMW NA its just a rumor.

So is mine, which is why she is telling me to save my money and get the M5 as opposed to the E55!

Not "M" cars...reg BMW's. I quote: "When BMW's next 3 series arrives next year as a 2006 model, a range of all new engines may include a turbocharged gasoline powerplant for the first time since 1986. BMW is already promising a new 180-hp 2.2 liter in-line six in the 3, but sources say BMW is considering turbocharging engines as a way to provide more power for its regular lineup. M series performance models will stay with normally aspirated powerplants." Autoweek Flash March 29, 2004.

The M division keeps pace with AMG, not regular BMW's.

Yea, I've heard that rumor as well, but again, I'll believe it when I see it. The product manager for all model divisions for BMW NA is fairly against forced induction.
