I have the same addiction to speed but I do so judiciously and safely (empty roads mostly). In my 20 years of driving, I've received three speeding tickets, and each time I simply wasn't paying attention to obviously placed police because I was tired. So I don't speed when I'm tired, either.
No speeding tickets in the V, so far. It is truly the ultimate in stealth.

Well, you've admited you have this problem. They say that's always the first step.
At the end of the day, you've got want to improve; to stop or change your behaviour. What gives your that motivation might be different than what motivates someone else.
I used to get a speeding ticket about once a year (give or take). Then I got one four or five years ago and it was a fine plus a hundred bucks for a lawyer to plead it down to less than 10 mph over the limit (to keep it off insurance).
Then about 3 years ago, maybe 4 now, I got caught in a "speed trap" and was charged $160 ($110 costs + $50 fine) for 36 in a 35. You read that right $160 for 1 mph over.
I decided after those two that I simply could not afford the dollar costs. That "speed trap" was an anomoly. BUT on the highway, I keep it between 5 and 7 over the limit and use the cruise control whenever I can. I haven't had a problem since.
BTW - there is a video around somewhere of an old beater Buick or Dodge out running a Trooper in a Charger in South Carolina (iirc). The beater wasn't faster, he just didn't give a shit when it came to intersections and traffic and got clear when the trooper got held up crossing an intersection.

This gives me an idea for a video, it would be titled " what if everyone thought we should have speed alarms?"
btw if you live in the NYC area, you can easily spot me by the silver color and 20+ mph over the speed limit, see a silver streak, it was probably me, and no I'm not proud of it.

We all need to understand that we all have our weaknesses and keep that in perspective before making fun of other people (and I'm just saying this in general - I'm not directing this at anyone specifically).

In Car Talk we try to keep discussions on point, however, there is more freedom in here then in the model specific forums. There is also more sarcasm and you'll need to be a little thicker skinned in here. So don't worry about trying to point out rules... the mods have it under control and will step in if necessary.
Currently using a TomTom XL. My old GPS (Magellan, forget which model) also had it... and we bought that back in early 2007.
