Is there a "cheap" track day tracks?

I've been wanting to go to road courses to throw my car around and have fun with my brain (relatively speaking!!) and ESP shut off rather than slowly carefully raising the pace little by little like I "would" on the street.

But everywhere I look, it's either

a. affordable(under $300) but you can't pass, you can't spin out, maximum speed 50mph -_-

or

b. free run, times you and give u data sheet, but costs x3 my monthly rent.

I guess people are sensitive when it comes to getting competitive rage on a track because nobody wants their pretty car ruined but,,

Do affordable free run track days exist? I'm dying to try out newly broken in tires and trying not to get myself thrown off a cliff in the mountains.

VIR, road atlanta, CMP, fayetteville maybe?

Check with the tracks themselves, my local track has open track days for $120 every friday

I should get a job there... lol

Looks like I have to pay an arm for "first" HPDE and sell the rest of my body parts until I'm allowed to pass slower moving vehicle.. (I actually don't mind instructor, I would want them to ride with me all the time but no-passing and speed limit rules like a train ride is just not worth $500..)

I think you really have no idea what you're talking about viper - yes NASA's HPDE1 starts with the basics (which even you aren't too good for) and builds from there. There's no real speed limit or lack of passing...Passing is more controlled and limited to certain straights on the track but that's all.

You gotta pay to play man and it's time to take it off the street.

I have experience it's just in different language and not recognized by NASA lol (those KSF genesis coupe pics? hint hint wink wink)
and there's always something to learn at any school but I don't wanna do something I did 4 years ago paying more money again.

@ mr vill
I know what I look like now lol but let's put the assumptions aside.. I was only asking to find a cheap, loose(as in not crowded) track days.

CMP does an awesome job on their track days... but I'm going to go out on a limb and say there's likely no such thing as a cheap track day. All tracks charge about the same amount.

I can also say that every track day I've seen at CMP (at least a dozen), have been anything but loose. It's not slammed and they do a great job breaking up the groups... but it's usually a good turn out.

If you are a member of a decent car club, sometimes they are able to organize track days with a discount involved.

But if you look for cheap...you are going to get cheap and usually something without a lot of thought towards safety, it happens all the time with some experiences resulting in deaths at the track.

As for your other comments...doesn't matter if you been racing karts since you were a kid, you are 21 and there is obviously ego/pride oozing out of you regarding this. Even experienced racers have wrecked, gotten injured, and died at these road courses because of unsafe conditions and poorly run "cheap" events.

Pay the money, run the NASA course...and if you're as good as you claim to be you'll advance quickly to track level you prefer to be at.

Check the local car clubs and tracks. Many car clubs like the BMW clubs, mustang etc will pay the rental fee for the track, then charge x amount for others to run. Also I think you are misunderstanding the no passing, and speed limit. Most all events allow you to pass, but you have to do it in a controlled manner or only when the guy you are behind points or waves you past. I have been to tracks where they put a limit on speed (not 50) but they usually don't care if you are going faster and controlled.

Option A is generally called a "Lead-And-Follow" session. And you'd be an idiot to dump any money into that.

If you're trying to save money, find a driving academy that goes to those tracks. Shouldn't cost you more than $300-500 a session & you'll gain valuable information with the classes.

For anything that involves just you going out there without anyone, buy a membership to the track. It's expensive, but no one said maintaining a track would be.

They have actually filmed a few episodes of that at the track we've been talking about (CMP aka Carolina Motorsports Park). One episode was filming on one of our race weekends, so we could see them out on the track.
