Uh he has had his Acura since 2002 and just recently started with Hyundai.

Why would he get rid of a perfectly fine car for another just because he works there?

I didnt say you couldnt praise new cars, what I'm saying is that there are a vast majority of people here who wouldn't own a Hyundai for a many number of reasons. Of all the people who have posted in this thread, no one has come forward to say that they do. What does that tell you?

Everyone wants an AM, no one wants a Hyundai unless they eat Top Ramen every day.

 

I rather drive the damn thing before saying I would buy it. Im sure most of us here are like that.

But the bottom line is that Hyundai has my attention. Im sure there are many who are like me who never gave Hyundai a look until recently.

Just remember a VW rabbit isnt the same quality as VW tourag so dont base it just off the brand name. Hyundai is a cheap brand in your eyes and they have to prove to everyone that they can make a quality car. Not sure why you arent open minded about it though....give them a chance to step up their game.

 

I think the mere fact that a Hyundai thread went eight pages on an Acura forum speaks volumes on how they've sparked some positive attention.

I'm no badge whore - I stick with Honda's cuz they are safe, reliable and have high residual value - that and I like their environmental philosophy.

I see what you mean. I gave a reason why I'm being a skeptic and its simply because there is something wrong when a car with all of the Genesis features comes in at $30K. It just makes me question the quality of the materials and workmanship. And until I have evidence contrary to that, its how I'll go on thinking about this company...

And for the record, I hope they prove me wrong It will be good for all...

but as i stated earlier, i think the pricing's more of a strategic positioning due to brand image and perception rather than a reflection of its quality.

domestically, it just wouldn't make sense for hyundai to price a car at $50k. 50k seems to be the point where you're moving into the luxury segment with the bmw's, mb's, etc.

consumers will see a hyundai ad that says "hyundai genesis. starting at $50,000" and slap themselves silly. like i said before...even acura, with a track record much more proven than hyundai, is struggling to sell a $50k car.

i would assume and hope that a lower price will get consumers interested and intrigued. hopefully then this will build more credibility for future models. and then they'll be able to sell cars for much more.

 

You're on the right track.

Indeed the Genesis sells for more in Korea, which went on sale in January. They've already received orders for 10k units in less than a month and they are increasing production capacity than scheduled before.

But yeah, pricing for the North American market is being finalized. It's a matter of marketability and customer perception. Ask too much, people won't buy it. Ask too little, no profit. Simply put, they are trying to read American consumers' minds and figure out what the magic number is.

I may be able to get my hands on a pre-production Genesis sedan earlier than I expected. I've gotta pull some strings, but if I get it done, then I'll try to take pics for you guys.

 

wow, great one man. im speechless, this is the best advice i've heard in my life, you should really write a book about the lessons you learned in life when you get old because since you'd have lived through so many decades you should be an expert. actually you should start your own car company since you'd know so much.
