Test drove the TL (6 speed)

Interior is absolutely beautiful. I miss the Acura luxury. The car was solid, but shifting from 1-2nd felt kinda weird, not really smooth. The salesguy noticed the same thing. I had him drive the car after I was complaining about it. The car may have been just abused or maybe it's the typical feel. It felt somewhat resistive shifting into 2nd, slight grinding feel from the shifter.... Overall, I was impressed with the ride, and even more impressed with the interior features.

I definately liked the TL when I was given one as a loaner. Probably has the same feel from 1st to 2nd that the CL has...or else someone abused it, maybe some kid who didnt know how to drive the car messed it up.

Sounds just like the CL 6 speed. It's better when the car is warm and something you get used to. THe trans just hates being shifted slowly from 1st to 2nd in any kind of relaxed way. Best to take the revs above 3k and shift quickly. It also helps if you don't pull the shifter towards you but straight back.

My CL-S 6er does the same thing going into 2nd gear .. just another 'feature' ... I figured that 'feature' would find its way into the new TL .. Acura will just call it 'normal operation' .. which means you live with it!

Yeah they gave me a bone stock RSX...Boy what a POS that thing is. I guess it is OK for prom queens and cheerleaders, but no man should be driving that car.

My friend just got a 6-speed dark TL... I'm going to drive it on Thursday... He mentioned the 1-2 gear change is a bitch, but otherwise, he loves the car

saw a new black TL over the weekend. Man it looks way better in person than I thought it would. Love the agressive stance. But, I don't see myself ever considering a new TL seriously. Even though I love my CLS 6 speed, I can say that this is the last FWD car I will ever own with anywhere near this much HP. The torque steer just gets on my nerves too much. Hopefully in a few years Acura will offer the TL in either AWD or RWD. I know it won't happen, but I can always hope

New Castle, DE...

My usual is an RSX, but they had a couple TL loaners in the garage during my 22K service.

I have never had ANY problems with the 1-2 shift on my 6 speed. No grinds, no missed shifts, nothing. It can be a bitch about going into 1st while rolling forward, but thats a safety feature if anything.

New cable tranny just don't shift like the good old linkage kind. But I still think Acura/Honda still have one of the best manual tranny in the market.

It is. I have no problems going into 2nd whatsoever. It shift so smooth. I have driven a new Z and thought the shifter was waaaay better in my CL.

My '02 RSX chatters half the time going from 1st to 2nd. Haven't been able to make a diagnosis of why sometimes it's rough and sometimes it's smooth as silk. The rest of the shifts are glorious! I am looking to replace the RSX with an '03 6-sp CL-S, are you telling me I can expect the same experience with the CL-S shifter?
