Test drove a Miata

I've always wanted a small convertible sports car. And nothing too fancy either. Something like the Miata or the S2000. I'm not really interested in anything like an M Roadster or Boxster S.... they're just more than I need.

Or so I thought....

The Miata is nice. The handling and steering are wonderful, but the car is very seriously lacking in power. I don't care what anyone says.... great handling alone does not make a car fun to drive. I will dare say that a Comptech suspension'd CL-S is more fun than a Miata.

Give me the power baby.....

Talk to Jens about power, his Miata is unbelievable. Jackson Supercharger, all the goodies.

Right.

But the fun thing about the S2k is you can rev it to 9000RPM hehe.

That can be as fun as snapping your neck back sometimes.

Still. Torque is what ya want on a daily basis.

Gold,
You can get the SC...and the miata for far less than the S2000. This will make your car rather fast...40hp at the wheel in a car that weighs 2300lbs!!! My friend has one and just advancing the timing made a noticeable difference...and that's like 2hp at the wheel. Think what it'll feel like with a SC!!!

Yeah, I know about the SC's available for the Miatas.... and I'm still **kinda** thinking about it. Another problem is that my left leg was jammed between the steering wheel and the door. At nearly 6'2" I am really pushing it as far as being able to fit in a Miata.

CLPower.... heh heh... as much as I'd love to drive either a Boxster S or an M Roadster there's no way IN HELL I'm going to. Those are both WAY out of my budget... so why torture myself?

For the seats, my friend was telling me that you can remove some of the cushion to lower yourself into the miata...that way you'll have that cool wave in your hair and no bugs on your face...

Miatas are cool. But you would have to deal with "chick car" stigma.

True, it is the national car of the gay community...I think the rainbow strip or flag is available as an option from the dealer...

true, they are fun in the mountains, but have you driven one on the street, those things are gutless, but fun . I'm a sucker for high RPM's but i think it could use an extra 20 lb ft at the bottom end. I'm still waiting for a ride in a SC'd one

Nope, the M-Roadster has the new 3.2liter from the M3.

But it is SLIGHTLY less powerful due to less room for the exhaust system.

Therefore... 315 horsies.

How about a "Monster Miata"?

There used to be a place in the San Diego area that swapped Ford 5.0's into Miatas. (Don't know if they're still around though.)

Those are cool, but they destroy the inherent nature of the miata as a roadster. Even Monster admits that they're cars don't handle like before. Best to get a rotary swap..can anyone say tri-rotor?? Or 20B?

my buddy had a monster in high school, thing was a beast. A tri rotor in a miata would be pointless, those things are like 500HP stock. A 13b is a much better choice, theres someone on the board here thinking about it.

Naw...it's 500hp turbo'd...and the 13b is cool, but only like 145 in stock trim...should think about the new renesis rotary...280 hp....now that's not a bad idea..and the they lost like 30lbs on the motor too..only 300lbs. now...that'll probably help the weight balance on the miata.

I heard someone in here talking bout me. Yeah the 13B Twin Turbo swap will be in the near future. Right now I'm content with 8psi of turbocharged boost. Its pretty fast and handles great as is. Gold, next meet I'll bring her up and you can try her out.
