Test drove EX35 and G37 yesterday

All I can say is wow!

In summary, the VQ engine is awesome! Performance is top notch! Only thing is I can say bad about the Infiniti's are that it sips gas like there is no tomorrow.

Now, onto test driving some Lexus's next time. There is absolutely nothing in Acura's lineup I want to test drive.

how did the EX's cabin feel?

did you find it roomy? tight?

i sat in one at the auto show and thought it was small. but i haven't driven it.

the gf is wanting one, but i'm trying to convince otherwise...

G37 is nice...I drove the first one in my area when i worked at Infiniti. I wish they had the "S" but the base model was still pretty quick. Only thing is it doesn't feel much faster than the previous G35 coupe. Interior is greatly improved though, although the exterior is questionable to some people. And yeah, the gas mileage sucks. I don't care what they rate it at, that thing eats gas like no other.

However, the EX couldn't have been stylied any worse...Well, maybe not. The new Murano might take the fugly award for mini-SUV's.

Sport tuned suspension, 19" wheels with summer tires, gigantic brakes (14", 4pot up front ), aero package etc..

As far as power goes, i think they're all the same.

awhile back when my FX was in for minor recall... they screw'd up and didn't order the right parts... and it was the week of Thanksgiving... so they said I can keep the loaner until the job's done... I really wanted a G35S but they gave me regular one...

Don't keep your hopes up for Lexus

Very very nice cars, great looking, feels like you're playing a video game instead of driving, except its boring. I've tried racing wheels for consoles with more steering feedback and feel.

I had a 07 G35X, the new platform G sedan and while I liked it the VQxxHR engine was merely OK. It produced good power up top but its low end was a bit lacking and the intoxicating engine note people talk about I don't get, it sounded very metallic and awkwardly mechanical not my idea of a good engine note. I don't want it to sound like I am bashing the car, for what it cost I think it represents a great value but the end all it is not.

I love the new G37 I think its an awesome car. I have never driven one but I have only read nice things about them.

As far as the EX I dont really see the point to it. The back seat is smaller then the G35? So why not just get the G35. WAY too small in my opinion but does have a GREAT interior.

well, some people (especially girls) feel like they have to get an SUV.

and a lot of times, they don't want a large SUV. just a small, "cute" one. so they really don't care about the lack of interior space.

That is a good point and I even remember Infinti saying it was targeting girls with it.

unfortunately, my gf has fallen into that trap.

she's been looking at all of those cars: EX35, CX-7, CR-V, santa fe, RDX, edge, and now she's at the XC60.

Lord knows what she'd do if the smaller VW SUV was out. and if the Q5 was real.

but she knocked the RAV4 and X3 off the list.

RAV4 because she didn't like it while i was driving it for 3.5 weeks. X3 because it's "ugly."

Exhaust note is "neat" but, not exactly intoxicating.

The VQHR motor is not unlike the prev-gen Rev up motors which are geared more toward peak hp than low end torque (something Honda owners are more accustomed to). Couple that with having to turn a driveshaft, I have personally found that FM VQs are actually a little less of a blast to drive (off the line anyway) than the lesser powered FFL based VQs (5.5G/6G Maxima, Altima 3.5 and I35). IMHO, the Altima SE-R seemed to have some of the best lowend pull out of all the VQs I have driven.

That lowend pull on the Altima SE-R doesn't feel good to me. It's just too much for the front wheels.

I definitely prefer the VQ motor in the Infiniti lineup.

at failboat..

I've driven the new g37s auto. All i have to say is :wow: ...

1. that thing has gobbs of power
2. the ambient light at night time is a very nice touch
3. suspension complemented the VQ very nicely.. tight turns and a bit stiff for a luxury car, but everyone knows its a sports car at heart :race:
4. the style of the auto shifter is very BMWish and captures that sporty look right on. I havent tried the paddle shifters yet (kinda scared to in a that car, partly because its pretty fast and also because its my g/f's mom's car) I will eventually though.

*The seats kept you where you needed to be at ALL times, but getting in to the car I felt that eventually the side bolsters would be damaged pretty badly over time by me brushing up against them EVERYTIME I got in the car.

*I dont like the audio control system... you have to scroll that navi wheel to search your IPOD for artists or albums, or you can use your steering wheel. but there's no press-one-time and auto-scroll, and I have a fuck-ton of music (80gb collection.)

*The speaker system is top-notch though, I loved being surrounded by music in that car.

Overall, VERY nice car. It was an honor to take this thing out on the road

I think that the EX looks rather nice and the interior is fantastic, maybe it's just me.

Really nice ride for a female IMO...

Sport package also adds a LSD.

As far as the VQ engine is concerned, I love it. It has plenty of power down low and a very strong top-end. Not quite as good as the awesome N54 but better than most anything else in this price range. And I think that most people would agree with me that the exhaust note is one of the best around, period.

I dont know if its just me since taste is relative, but most of the baby SUVs are ugly. The FX, RDX, CR-V, X3, Jeep Compass, Mitsu Outlander, FJ Cruiser..... all UGLY! Maybe its the trendy thing to do in this segment

The G35 coupe has one of the highest resale values in its class, so that is very unlikely.

The more I look at the EX, the more I tend to regard it as a G35 wagon.

I was thinking the same thing and if you think of it that way, it's not a bad vehicle.

x3. Not a bad vehicle, but it's like a tall wagon, the ground clearance on it is either equal to or worse than the RDX's.
