Sweet Mother of Pearl

What has 380+hp, 400+ torque, six speed A/T, 4 wd , can be had for $35m…out runs TSX, TL, maybe TLs ,R/L and close to G35 in the ¼ mile???? The new Toy Tundra…14.6 @93.6 ¼ mile….per Motor Trend….G35 14.1 @ 101 per C&D

Ya,Ya I know but that is still a fast straight line ride…I would not buy one but again that is fast for the $s, does other things and a 2wheel drive should be quicker…

Built in San Antonio Texas, and Toyota is in Nascar now... so it looks like they've got got a plan for getting the rednecks money...

How is their reputation in NASCAR? I saw a story about them violating the rules for the car or something a while back.

The truck= I like the ads as well.

How about a gun rack upgrade and $5 gift card to wal-mart?

The new Tundra is nothing special. It's expensive (starts at 22,290 msrp) and the new Silverado (18,760 msrp) seems to be more than capable of competing with the Tundra, if not out performing it. Plus, the name SILVERADO and CHEVY carries much more weight with a bunch of hicks than Toyota or Tundra.

I rely on pickups for my livelihood (agriculture) and have pretty much purchased Ford trucks exclusively for over ten years as I've found them the most reliable. That being said, my next truck will be a Tundra. Will it be a good truck? Time will tell, but as the playing field becomes much more competitive in regards to pickups, those of us who work their trucks have to consider all the options available. And if it does turn out to be a great truck, other manufacturers will have to improve their offerings. Not necessarily a bad thing.

not to burst your bubble but that thing is no where close to as fast as a g35....and a 14.1 compared to 14.6 is a huge differnce on the drag strip

i just saw 6 or 7 new tundras drive by me on the way home. Looking like they were heading to the dealership. All still had the plastic over the paint.

I thought they looked pretty good, I'd probably take one over any other pickup. Although I tend to like japanese cars, and in the past the interior fit me better. Although now they are being built in america, i'm sure they got a lot bigger. my old land cruiser didn't have the interior room for anyone much over 6', but for my mom who is 5' nothing, it fit like a glove

I too think the new truck will drag GM/Ford to offer 6 sp A/T and side and side curtain air bags standard…also fit and finish will/has improved…I was just impressed with how fast it was 0-60 in 6 flat and 14.6 qtr…the GM was much slower even though lighter…all this and it can tow two G-35s across the country…

I too think it will be a slow to move GM/Ford/Dodge drivers to Toyota but it is quick and can do other things…The people with the redneck and hick comments need to lighten up a little on their fellow man…a car or truck is just a tool…i.e. carving up roads at a fast pace, providing comfortable trans, hauling stuff or going off road…a lot of people down this way park their sports car and jump into a truck to do things the sports car will not…

Great trucks. My best friend's father has a Tacoma 4dr TRD and my best friend has a '92 p/u. It's got 8+ inches of lift, 37" tires and a bone stock 22RE motor that goes and goes. The only power modification has been having it re-geared. The only problem he's ever had with it in 100k+ miles was a timing chain jump on a 4-wheeling trip. Towed it home, reset the timing and it was running perfectly again.

I also had an '84 4x4 with a 22R engine a few years ago that I picked up for next to nothing. 260k miles, NO problems.

<--- Still a Ford guy and I'd never buy a Toy over a Ford anyday. I would think that it would take quite a lot for Toyota to with over the big 3 crown.

PS:

I will say the dash looks like shit. WTF was Toyota thinking? Looks like some kind of Yugo that was thrown together with a bunch of different parts and materials.

At about 90mph 5 tenths is about one car length. Not that huge really.

Don't know what everyone is talking about as far as the redneck thing goes. I live in a town called Goose Creek outside of Charleston S.C. I know plenty of rednecks, and most of them like the tundra. They're more "Ameican" than any other truck out there, and they are strong as hell. What's a redneck not to like?

I don't know if the rednecks are so hard to please.

A friend of mine from high school who drives big rigs, tried to marry his cousin, chews tabaco like bubble gum, and drinks whiskey like water loves both the tundras he's had.

It's quite plasticky for a Toyota. I'm not looking for leather seats or anything, but just good-grade plastic. I hate the fake metal plastic.

Sat in one and it was HUGE to say the least. The center console is like a mini file cabinet - theres rails to put dividers onto. Also the shift knob is HUGE also. Ugly ass center stack, with ugly looking HVAC knobs, and that horrid cheap-looking shiny black plastic that Toyota is using in all of its new cars. I'm not a midget or anything, but I had to jump to get my feet up into the cab in the models without a running board/bar.

The huge center console is kinda a waste of space though, IMO. Does anyone know if it comes with a front bench seat?

And the styling of the Tundra is faulty to me. They have this stupid plastic panel above the chrome grill which throws off the whole front. And the taillights extend forward into the quarter panel, which looks just awful to me. Not a fan of the mismatched interior either. I do like how spacious it is though. You could probably fit 3 obese people in the back quite nicely.

And reliability. I give Toyota credit as it seems to have a tight truck on it's hands, but i need to see where these trucks are 100,000+ miles from now, and how well their motors hold up. The only reason i see the "rednecks" not jumping on this thing is because of the proven reliability of them there Cheby's and what nots.

I am impressed by the Tundra. Toyota is keeping the big 3 on its toes and forcing them to make better trucks. I actually like the interior. It looks big and bulky- like a truck should be. It has gobs of power and like the OP said- it's pretty fast too for a 6k pound truck.
