SUV shopping... 55K~70K range

I keep vehicles on average about three years. In 2010 I'll probably be able to fetch $30-35K for it depending on mileage. There's a tear in my beer....

A nicely equipped 09 V6 wil be about 60K. Add 10K to that and you have a nicely equipped S.
The GTS comes with a lot of goodies right out of the box, the only thing it's missing that 80% of the buyers want is nav.
In the end aren't we helping pic a car for someone's mom? She'll probably be satisfied with the V6, it's no slouch, it's just not quick enough for an enthusiast.
Bigger rig would look at the GL and Escalade. The LX570 is nice, but fucking expensive...they're in high demand (very short suppy).
Mid size rig.....X5 4.8, 09 ML550 (updated), 09 Cayenne (few nice updates).

even the land crusier is now almost 70
to the OP, how do your parents drive and do they need heavy towing capacities? I think this would be very important to consider first, if your parents don't drive really fast and don't need a car that does 0-60 in like 5 seconds, you might want to rethink what they are getting.
If you are getting the v6 versions of the RR, or porsche, I suggest you look at the lower priced cars like the FX and MDX. These SUV's will have less maintainance costs (30 dollar oil change vs. 200 dollar premium oil change), and they have almost the same things. The MDX is a very nice SUV, and I have to say, just looking at the specs on a new FX50, its a very nice SUV that would give top tier manufacturers a run for their money..

Only RR or Cayenne acceptable for status reasons.
OP's mom is a badge whore and won't be towing anything or getting dirt on the SUV, so Escalades, Yukons, GX/LandCruisers, H2's, MDX's, X5s, MLs and GLs aren't on the list- see OP:
Jeeze, I hate the idea of SUVs being used as commute cars and mommy-goes-shopping cars.
OP's mom won't have to worry about the towing capacity, auxiliary transmission coolers, skid plates, winches, etc. Her concern will be just how much time each candidate might be out of service after purchase - RR's Achille's heel.

While I will always question the RR's reliability, I will never question it's off road prowess and on the Cayenne side, 9 of the top 10 finishers in this years Trans Siberian rally were Cayennes.

I could swear, that's a German name.
And since when do Koreans have a lock on badge whoredness?

when they live in Bergen County, NJ. I know since i grew up there my entire life. Almost every driveway in Pal Park, Leonia, Ridgefield, Fort Lee (all these towns are densely populated with koreans) have either a BMW, Merc, or Lexus. Also, if you go to the LV, Gucci, etc stores at the mall they are filled with koreans.
same here in VA where i currently live.
Koreans are badge whores
only if we can be proud of kia/hyundai brand as we are of Samsung.
