The STS with a pulley and tune would be able to take on or keep up with the E55. The vette doctors in LI have dealt with supercharged northstar motors, and have been able to get over 600 horses out of them on decent boost and the stock bottom end. If this motor is built solid, then i dont see why upgrading the pulley, lets say exhaust and a tune would not let it beat the MB out or at least hang. The benz is not a God of a car, just pretty damn close. and i am speaking for an STS modded to the Benz's stock level. A modded benz would be able to prolly kill a modded STS. Both engines are built for boost. My money says the benz's motor is closer to its power limits than the STS is. Don't sleep on the Northstar, that thing is built like a tank. The reason GM doesnt dump them in other cars is because they are expensive to build and are a wiring nightmare.
