Storage of cars?

I had asked about beater cars to buy so I can insure myself on there. I don't really want one of these POS's sitting in my driveway, are there places you can put a car in a garage and just leave it for a low monthly fee or something?

Call around to some storage yards. The mechanic I used to work for had a big lot in back of the shop. He used to keep cars back there for people until they wanted them moved. He didnt charge too much though he had plenty of space. Probably wouldnt work if you were in a city.

Ok, I know that the link is on a SHO forum, and the title is "Tips on storing your SHO" but there are some very good tips in there regardless of the car...

I don't know where you are but if you look out in rural areas a lot of people with barns store peoples cars and boats for cheap. Look for boat storage places and call and ask how much to store a car.

I will call around a few places like you suggested. How much should I be looking at spending on storage? Any ideas?

I had a car stored in a barn for less than $100 for the winter and my 18ft boat was stored at a boat yard, outside storage, for $25 per month. The car was packed into the barn with other cars, boats, motorcycles and RV's and I couldn't have gotten it out until spring if I had wanted to. The outside boat storage was access from 9am-9pm. You could also rent a storage unit at the local U-store place and those are about $100 per month depending on the size of the unit.

And this post of mine is about quantity not quality...

Covered/indoor storage can be pricey... 100 on up a month... There's a gas station near me that has a couple of acres out back that charge $25 a month for people to park their cars (open to the elements/snow).

Check out craigslist.com in the housing section under "parking & storage".... That should give you a good idea of costs in your area...

Most of the local uhaul places around me will not allow indoor storage of vehicles, but only outside storage (mostly mobile homes / campers)
