So the TL needed new tires....

...Well I was in the market for a newer ride. My old 05 TL had 89k on it and I decided to get somthing a bit different. I posted a thread a month or so ago about getting a bigger/nicer car with a budget of 25k, but in the end decided not to spend that much, as i have some other investments in mind for the house. While its not an upgrade by any means, it fits my neads. I ended up with a Certified 2008 Nissan Maxima 3.5 SE. I got it for 16.7 out the door. 36K on the clock, nothing too special just a few basic options. Got the 100k warranty with it, and so far i love it. Its silver/light grey, 3.5 V6 with the CVT tranny, which is taking some getting used too. Over all i really like it, i've put about 250miles on it so far. Its got a 20 gal fuel tank, so filling up is a bit more $$$, but i will report back with more when i get a few more miles on her.

I will miss the TL, she was a great car, but i wanted somthing a bit newer with a warranty, and somehow came across this Maxima. Retail is 20k, with trade in around 16.9, so i think i got a fair deal. Not a scratch on her, and the car overall is in great shape. I will miss the TL for sure, but i think it was time. Pics will follow tomorrow, I'm going to get the window's tinted tomorrow 20% all the way around and already looking at intakes hahaha.

So for the crappy cell phone shots, at work right now. I'll get some better ones with the Tint.

Nice pick up. Should be easy to maintain and give you a long service life.

Nice choice. You got the model after Nissan got rid of the "belt buckle" grill, which I hated. I still think the moonroof is a little.... well goofy. How do you like it? Also, How does it ride compared to the TL? Again, nice car! I've liked Maximas since the 80's.

Congrats! Low miles on that thing.

I test drove a Maxima before getting my TL and I wasn't impressed with the interior. Too bland and clunky I guess

I rented that 08 Maxima before. The CVT in that car is very good almost excellent, Its revs very freely and has a sporty lightweight feel to it. Dont diss it till you try it on the 08 Maxima. And it looks much nicer than the current Maxima which is a dog. Nice pick up.

I like the newer one better, but the old one wasn't too bad. I had a 97 and 01 maxima and the really enjoyed the 01 a lot. I am guessing they still have the timing chain so you won't have that maintenance at 100k.

The ride compared to my TL is VERY smooth. Though the TL had two cracked compliance bushings. The maxima's ride after 220 miles is quite, smooth and enjoyable. The CVT is interesting...I test drove it for about 1.5hours, because 80% of my driving is on the HWY, I punched it on the ramp, and before i knew it i was doing 80ish, but NEVER felt any shifts. It was almost like it has one speed, i was confused for a minute and thought is somthing wrong with this car? After some research i found that its just the way it is. The car flat out moves. Its a different feeling than i'm used too though, not torquey at all. It takes some getting used too compared to another Auto transmissions, but the shifts are seemless. Heres a link to what exactly a CVT is.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continu...e_transmission

Over all so far i really am enjoying the car, the interior isn't as nice as the TL, but its not horrible either. Right now getting tint, and pricing out CAI's, the intake on my old TL did wonders i thought, so thats the first thing i'm looking into. I can get a NISMO R-tune and not void any warranties i have, they claim 14.9hp, but i doubt that.

Yeah, you described it perfect, the CVT in that car knows only one speed. And that feels to me like its VOOOMMM. Its a much more fun CVT if you will than the one in the Altima which feels slower to rev and thus less fun.

I think your car is unique, the awesome CVT and that killer quad pipes.

congrats on the purchase... i love the 6.5 gen upgrades... my dad had an 05 that i was less than impressed with, but the revisions made on the 07 and 08s really helped. he ended up with an 09 3.5 altima while i ended up with an 09 2.5 altima. the cvt does take getting used to especially when finding where the sweet spots are in terms of performance... now how can i get you to sell me those stock 18s that ive looked everywhere for.... ... by the way check out stillen dot com (dont know the rules about posting links but you get the picture) for aftermarket maxima parts if you havent already.

Nice, congrats. I don't really like CVT either tough. I looked at a few 07 3.5 Altima SE's before buying my TL and I didn't like the feel of the CVT. Felt like I was driving a boat.

I really like the look of your Maxima though, especially the rear with the quad tips

I'll def check it out, got windowns tinted yesterday, talked to the guys at shop, and might be ordering black powdercoated grill inserts for it.

Sorry didnt mean to confuse
Trade in for TL- 10200-Base 05 89K
KBB- Trade in for the maxima in my area-16.9k
KBB- Retail in my area for car just over 20k
I paid- 16.7 out the door.

So i think i got a fair deal on the car.

Nice pick-up, best of luck. If you want to increase mileage, get an intake, it should help with 1~2mpg.

YES it is def like a boat compared to the TL. I think the blacked out grille, and intake for now will be the plan. The MPG is eh...not great, but hope an intake will help with that. Ordered some LED lights for the license plate and interior.
