yep...and you think, nowhere to rest my arm, but within a week, you never think about it again...it's very natural once it's shifting and hanging from it.

J, ST, did you guys have push-button start? That's what that red button to the left of the shifter looks like in SuperTrooper's car. On the link I posted it's a hazard switch. Looks like a blank on the right.

And no armrest I'm driving a Versa with no armrest now, miss it.

He once changed his avatar to my same exact one and posted in some 3G threads as me...it even took me a few times to realize it.

Can confirm the shifter on the EP3 is a delight. I put a few hundred KM on one back when they first launched and the placement is actually really great, it takes a few min to get used too but that happens quick. Also was a real fun car to boot around it, it was pretty quick.

Went to go look at that EP3 today. It was in rough shape. No insurance, so I could only drive it around the block. Some body damage, and it looks like the interior wasn't taken care of at all.

I need more seat time to decide if I like EP3s. The small steering wheel and shifter placement is pretty different from what I'm used to. And I think I still want an armrest.

I like it other respects though. Seats are great. Good visibility. Fair amount of space.

That's something I did aftermarket. It's an S2000 engine start button. It was a common mod back in the day on EP3s and a cheap effective one at that.

As far as getting used to the shifter position, it'll grow on you and like Costco said after a week it'll feel weird having it any other way. I test drove a Mazdaspeed Protege right after test driving the EP3 and it felt like it was incredible out of place. The lack of armrest never bothered me, but now that I have one it would be tough going to a car without one.

You know something funny, your post just triggered a memory because I was trying to remember what car it was that everyone would take the S2000 start button and retro in...ivtec.net days...

Yeah, after a week, you don't even want an armrest, you just get used to your arm hanging off of your hand hanging off the shifter. You'll see...

Don't give up on the EP just yet, Aman.

I'm at home until at least September, which means I have access to this:

It's mom's '03, the typical "only driven to church on Sundays", so I've been using it during the week. I don't need my own car right now, so no sense paying for insurance.

Unless I find an amazing deal, I probably won't buy anything until the summer at the earliest.

I do okay at the saving part, just too chicken to go out and spend it.

So I got this:

It's a 2001, with 128k-ish miles. The paint is far from perfect, but it's in good shape mechanically and came with a lot of goodies. I paid a little less than what they normally go for around here.

I'll get more pics once once I make peace with the parking Nazis here and bring it home (and clean it, again). It's very nice to finally get out of the Passat. I hate that car.

Dare I ask... manual? The fate of this thumbsup smiley rests upon your answer. Must be nice to have your own car again either way.

Wow I'm out of the loop. Sorry to hear about the Jetta, Aman...just glad you weren't in it.

Enjoy your new Accord. Just make sure it doesn't become an Accordion with your vehicular luck.

Congrats! That Accord was my first car back in the day. Wow, the memories!

I street raced everything on the road with that Accord.

I've driven a wagon B5 manual diesel with 850 000km in Europe for a month and that thing drove perfectly fine.

I had a 97 sedan...if I wasn't such a numbnut I'd have kept that all these years and bought a house cash right now.

Congrats on the upgrade, my friend. You truly are not just the man. You are A man.

Thanks, gents.

I'm trying to get more pics of the car, but my schedule and this weather haven't been cooperating at all. I've washed it 3 times already and it's dirty again.

Car is a 4-cyl, F23, and yes a 5-speed! Timing belt was recently done, and in the past 10K kms it's gotten a new clutch, pads/rotors, exhaust, springs/shocks, and some other odds and ends. This is my first time driving a lowered car. It definitely requires a change in driving style, but I think I'm adapting well. I've only whacked the exhaust once.

Most of my gripes with the Passat were drivetrain-related. The auto trans seemed to always be in the wrong gear, and the car has the throttle response of a duck. Doing even basic maintenance seems more complicated than necessary (the intake needs to be removed to change the passenger-side headlamp bulb, coolant reservoir has to be set aside to get to the oil filter, for example). It was nice to have a car around, but I really wanted my own again.

Hopefully, hopefully it's clear tomorrow. I'll wash it and take some more pics with an actual camera.

Yeah, stuff like that is why I don't buy used German cars. I'm beating a dead horse, but yeah.

As mentioned, much better transmission than the 4AT.

Didn't Judy already have the J? I thought it was the 6MT that was new. Either way, that's a long way away.

I wouldn't say all German cars are bad to work on. My Jetta was as simple as it gets (8 valves!) though it's also probably the most basic German car you could buy.

And sorry about no pics. If it's not weather, it's other ish that gets in the way. I didn't think people would be that interested in an old Honda anyways

Congrats on the new to you car. We had an 01 EX I4....with the automagic tranny. It was the Mommymobile before our Pilot. It was still a hoot to drive, though!
