Or just go balls to the wall cheap and get a toyota corolla that gets good gas mileage, is manageable in the snow but if you lose control or slide into a tree, you won't care about it.

I've actually thought about buying my boss' son's 95 corolla with a rusty hood and bad paint...I thought about buying it, slamming it ridiculously low to the ground, sanding ALL metal panels on the car to have a uniform rust look and finally driving a car I don't care where I park.

I WILL own an E30 one day.

Now that I'm back home, I have access to mom's cushy Passat, which I could easily DD (it's the typical lady-driven to church once a week car). And after watching the video that V6cord posted... the want for a BMW is stronger than ever.

My budget's dependent on what insurance ends up giving me for the Jetta, and how far down the line I decide to pull the trigger. For now I'm thinking $4k. It's not a lot of money at all, but I enjoyed a $3.5k Jetta, so there's a little hope.

Legacies (Legacys?) are a good option that I've been looking for. But like the Imprezas, it's very hard to find one without excessive rust here.

No Corollas I've never driven a car that felt like it was intentionally making driving a bad experience. Even though I'm searching through beaters, I want to get something worth taking care of.

What other cars am I missing?

you need a reliable point A-B car. Sentra? Maybe even an SE-R. Just get a car that will be cheap to get you through the next 5 years then look into cars that you really want. That's my .

Glad no one got hurt, beside the Jetta and the truck. Good luck with your search, IS300s are nice but as you said they still hold their value pretty good. The only thing that sucks is the MPGs as the 2JZ is a pig.

[shamless plug] Got a 00 GS300 platinum series with 172k miles if you are interested [/shameless plug]

But seriously, if you were here in Boston I would have gladly sold you the GS, its in pristine condition, I have owned it for about 7 years now and beside a couple of O2 sensors the thing has been solid. Only reason I am selling it is because its been replaced by the 2G RL.

^^ Funny thing is that the car goes to Toronto almost 6~7 times a year as I have family in Toronto and the GS is far more comfortable on long routes compared to the TL. Its about 570 miles from my house to Etobicoke, ON; windsor is double that I believe.

Time to beat the Subaru drum. Here's a GT from a dealer in Toronto. Show the wagon some love. Sporty, reliable, and has wagon utility.

Legacy GT Wagon

> $5,000 I really like:
- Mazda Protege 5-Door 5spd
- Mazda 6 (locally there are quite a few under $5k)
- Hyundai Tiburon (10 year warranty might even be good depending on year)
- Early 2000s Audi TT or A4
- VW Passat

Wait.. No... I would take 2000 Civic EX Coupe 5mt. Fun, reliable, good on gas and everything is so cheap to fix.

Hey now, there is ONE Corolla worth owning. They made very few, but I'm sure there's some out there. It's the one with the Celica GTS engines and 6speed manual. A guy I work with has one and it's awesome, well, awesome in Toyota Corolla terms.

I'd look for a Honda Civic Si in the EP3 form. I had one and it was a great car, lots of utility and I'm sure can be had cheap now. And as someone else suggested the Nissan Sentra SE-R's were pretty fun cars at the time.

No way in hell I'd fit in a Miata. And they're a fair bit more expensive here than in the US. A clean NA would be around $4k. Wouldn't GSs cost more than ISs of the same era? And how common are they in MT?

Mazda6s are a good option. A close friend of mine has one that I enjoy driving. Proteges here have all been murdered by rust, and most 3s have rust issues as well. An A4 I considered, but the majority of them have high mileage, and I'm apprehensive about that. And there's already a Passat in the household.

SE-Rs don't appeal much to me, but I am interested in trying one out.

PM'd JnC about the Lexus. I don't know if it'll be worth trying to bring a car over from the US, but it's worth a look.

Somebody say EP3??

That happens to be one of my favorite shifters. I seriously considered an EP3 at one point as well. I asked SuperTrooper (guy with Charger, and previously MS6 and AV6 coupe) and he loved his EP3

Tim's description though

It is odd looking, but I drove one and the placement is actually quite excellent.

Seriously though, tell me that didn't make you at least a little uncomfortable when you reached for the shifter.

Penis was not the first thing that comes to mind when I first drove that car...

I have to assume Tim's naturally bends upwards. How else would he have been reminded of it...

That is one hell of a schwang to tilt a bit down then a full 90 degrees up. Not quite a reach around but you made your point.

I owned one before my RSX...I had totaled it and it took the hit VERY well, to this day I miss the suede seats and shifter location. When I test drove the RSX I felt like I was reaching down to the ground to shift. The EP is awesome...not the fastest vtec ever made, that's for sure...but I enjoyed driving it and with HFP kit, it looked pretty mean.

I thought of you when I saw it, J! Looks a ton better with that lip kit.

Curvy penises or not, I don't like the shifter placement at all. But like neuronbob said, as long as it's Honda smooth, who cares?

Email sent. It's probably a little too early to pull the trigger, but it'll be nice to get behind the wheel of one, and if the price is right...

I loved my man sausage... er, I mean my shifter, on my EP3. Yeah it looks odd but when it's in your hand it feels so natural. Oh god can I take this whole post back?

My friends give me shit all the time about being all about ergonomics... trust me when I say that shifter location is awesome. Closer to the steering wheel, and the height/location sorta imitates a RWD/mid-engined car shifter.
