The cl-s is my first car i luv it got some mods and a bangin system, but my dream car has been and still is an e36 m3. I want it b/c its fast, easy to mod, rwd and its my dream car. I duno if i should seel the cl-s and keep a luxury car for the long run or get a m3 for speed and performance.

CLS is a damn nice car for it being your first. But M3 would be fun, insurance might not be (guessing you are young).

And its not that easy or cheap to mod.

well insurance ill be insured under my dads 97 325i 5speed so it doesn matter that way, but modding wise id say the cl-s is way more then an m3 and the m3 is already so perfect performance wise, but personally looks and a clean car i would take my cl-s

aren't we faster than those? Plus, why would you want a previous body style?

The CL-S 6sp is as fast as the prev. gen. Auto M3? Off the line or from a roll?

Just trying to clarify your claim.

And yeah, about the topic, M3: great car. Prev gen: no. Because of the miles, outdated looks, insurance, lack of luxury, etc.

Just me though. I think the CL-S is much faster than I can risk fucking with anyway =)

18 and in college = careful or broke.

THe coupe or the sedan?

No way are we close to the M3's. THey do 0-60 in 5.5 sec stock. The M3 is very easy to work on and is one of the most incredible machines built (for less than a house). Add-on parts for them are actually cheaper than for CL's because of the huge demand for them, where for our cars there is almost none. M3's are fairly luxurious cars also. I would definatly get a M3 if I could. You will definatly not regret it.

M3 Coupes would eat a stock CL for breakfest. M3 sedans, a 03 6-Speed might give it a run for its money but would still win cause its RWD (from a standstill). Like I said before M3 still are quite Luxurious for the level of sportyness. You should drive one though. The ride might be harsher than you would like especially compared to a CL. The old body style is still very nice looking. Also, no need to worry about Trannies, BMW's drivetrains are quite bulletproof. There will be more maintnece compared to a Japanese car but for what you get, its well worth it.

They can be made to go super quick. Any used one you get now will probably be beat on pretty well. They're awesome cars but i'd sit on the CL a bit longer. You've got plenty of time...

pimp, I'm also a big E36 M3 fan and have thought about trading my 2k2 Maxima for one. I'm a particularly big fan of the 286hp Euro Spec M3. Even though the USDM M3 is pretty quick, too bad it came from the Fatherland neutered to 240hp (which I do think is suspect).

But IMO, If you dont use CL as a daily driver (like me and my Maxima), then overall reliability may not be that big of a deal in going to the M3. But if its a daily driver, then at some time you will miss the reliability (read: minimal repair & maintenance needs) of the CL.

are u getting 2-door five speed? check insurance? then if its rite, do it. Ur lucky cause i had a choice for my first car two years ago. it had to be auto and FWD cause i live in canada. but after driving my friends rwd car, it so much more fun fishtailing and burnouts are so much more easy. if u decide to switch ur car , get rwd and manual.
