Nissan Altima 2005

Anyone see or drive this car ? In my need for a sedan I am considering it...I go for a test drive on thursday..seems pretty nice and the interior is much improved. I borrowed a friends altima a few weeks ago.. the engine and stereo are incredible...the interior was ass. Maybe with a nice interior this could be a nice car...

How much different is the '05 from the '04 or '03?

Maximas and Altimas have never been RWD. Besides the improved interior, horsepower bump is up to 250hp. I suspect the Altys have always been around 250hp. They are running consistent low 14s stock so it is a very fast car.

Maxima and Altima will probably never become RWD again.

Infinity is all RWD or AWD. So if Nissan had RWD cars and the same VQ engine in there cars it you eat into Infinity sales.

To me the Altima looks better then the G35 sedan, so the only thing the G35 sedan has over the Altima is RWD, some more lux and 10hp.

The I35 (aka 5.5G Maxima GLE) is FWD but the rest are either RWD or AWD.

As far as the Altima, I had a chance to check one out at my local dealer. IMO, they look better in pictures than in person. I wouldnt trade my 2002 Maxima SE for it, unless I got an exception deal on one with Navi.

They now post the 3.5SE's power @ 250hp/249lb-ft; which is what I think it was since it debuted (albeit unofficially) given the track times I've seen for the 2k2/3 models.

Peace.

My bad The Alty is waaaay nicer than the new Max. I absolutely hate what they did to the 4dsc... My next car will definitely be either the G coupe or a TL.

The altimas have the same motor that the maximas had. Except that the car a more restrictive exhaust and intake setup. I remember those guys were getting major horsepower from inatek and cat backs. So all nissan is doing is freeing up the intake exhaust and tuning the ecu. I hope Honda responds to this because they seem to follow the trend of keeping the same horsepower number for years. The last gen v-6 accord held 200 hp since 98 while the competition danced around it.

Altima looks pretty nice on their site. But loaded up it gets to almost 32k. That is very close to g35/tl range. Tough choice at that price. I thought they were a little cheaper than that

Let me clarify...

I can get the 05 Altima for 3 percent off invoice because my company is a supplier to Nissan. I would be looking at a 5 speed
3.5 SE---I think with Leather sport package(basically everything except Navi) I could get it for under 25k. I wonder if anyone owns a 5 speed....I remember driving one and thought it was kinda nothcy but that was in 2002. Maybe its improved since then. I think the Altima at this point is better looking than the Maxima--although not as good as the TSX IMO...
Problem with the TSX is the engine.
I love everyhting else......

the new altima's interior is alot nicer than it used to be. but its not that nice without the navi screen. my father has an 04 maxima se 5 spd automatic.. top of the line navi elite pachage which gives u the console all the way through to the black seat, its black on black. but evan if u dont get navi the screen is still there on the max and not on the altima. ive been to the track a few times with the max so far and my brother drove it his best run so far bone stock is a 14.4 at 96 mph.. his best 60ft so far is a 2.1.. he wants to take it one more time to see if he can get a 14.2 or 3 out of it bone stock.. so just so everybody knows the 05 and 04 max run about the same it depends on whos driving. the max is about 275 pnds heviar than the altima.. i love both cars sweet as hell..

In defense of Honda, the 1998 Accord V6 (J30A1 - 200hp) had more horsepower than the its competition:
1998 Maxima (190hp)
1998 Camry (194hp)
1998 Passat (172hp)

So Honda does eventually respond to the competition.

ya

Glad to see most of you like it. I personally love the engine..but I prefer the tsx's euro lines and top of the line Navigation.
Ahh but the Nissan engine. Yummm... My mother always told me to look at whats on the inside...perhaps she was talking about the Nissan 3.5 Engine!

blah

The G35 doesnt appeal to me...-not for 32-35k--for that price I would get a tl. Where I live front wheel drive is preferable.
I dont really have an issue with FWD..never have.
I just think the altima looks decent...if the interior is really nice I may have to own that sucker.

I had a new style altima for a 3 day loaner and I couldn't have been more disappointed. It feels like you're riding in a tin can. No power at all.

I sorely missed my CL-S when I was in this thing.

I think this is rumor; and the rumor has it that it'll be a QR25DE SE-R (translation: A high powered Altima 2.5SL, not 3.5SE)

That said, I doubt Nissan would go 'SE-R' on the Altima in light of Nismo mods being available at Nissan dealers. Maybe, it'll be an Acura A-spec type deal. i.e.: buy a 3.5SE, then purchase a Nismo pkg on top of that.

$.02

Again, it is not a rumor. Nissan has confirmed that there is an SE-R model that will be revealed at the NY Auto Show in April.

Here is the official Press release from the official Nissan News site:
http://www.nissannews.com/events/aut...an/index.shtml
"Also being shown at the 2004 NYIAS is the all-new sport-inspired Altima SE-R and the Nissan Actic crossover concept."

I belong to a huge altima board, and there are dealers, nissan plant workers, parts dept personell, nissan mechanics, etc. that all confirm that there is a listing for a 2005 Altima SE-R in their computer system and that it will be a pumped up 3.5 V6 model, most likely @ 265hp.

Again, not a rumor. The final specs will be made available at the NY Auto Show in a few weeks.

Sounds more like a mod-concept (i.e.: Ford Shostar, etc,...) but we'll see.

^ That is what I thought at first, but people on other boards who work at nissan say that there is a 2005 SE-R parts lising in their computer system. It just appeared there a couple of weeks ago.

One guy even went sofar as to post screenshots of the parts listing off of the dealerships computers.
