Should I Get This S2K?

Hey, guys i just found this s2k on the local car auction. I am just wondering what do u guys think should i get it or not, if not why not. I know its slavage title but i am going to keep it for myself i am not going to sell it if i do get it. Its a 01 ap1 with 82k miles on. What do u guys think. Also for those s2k owners i have a question. On how many miles should i change the clucth. I have some pics of it..

For the car in its current condition or for after all is repaired?

I have no doubt that it will cost you more than $5.5K after all the repairs.

Just for the car. I know a friend of mines that will do the body work for me, He wont charge more than 500 to get the rear end repaired. I am willing to go up to 5.5k for that s2k. But the miles that are on the s2k are slowing me down from buying it, I just got my tranny rebuilt on my CL-S 6MT and its on the 80k miles so i am thinking that i am going have to rebuild the tranny on the s2k too. Thats the only thing thats making me not jump on the s2k fast. I need some info on the trannies from the s2k owners. I hope they are not glass like our CL-S's trannies are.

I wouldn't do it; personally.

The airbags are out, salvage title, and it's going to require quite a bit of work.

Plus, if you ever wanted to sell it, you'd have a hell of a hard time doing so with the salvage title.

Thats why i am going to keep the s2k for myself as a weekend car and i got my CL-S to do the job. I know airbags will be the most expensive thing on this car, but what can i do, if u want the good car for cheap u have to spend lil extra cash on it. I also found airbags on ebay for 800bucks with shipping for this s2k.

Did you consider how bad insurance will be on a salvaged titled S2k?

I'd look into that first before doing anything.

I personally wouldnt do it. Not worth the headaches.

Thats just a huge headache to deal with. One of my buddies at work bought a salvage G35 coupe last year and hes still piecing everything together, he said he would never even consider doing this again. Killer deal though, got it for like $8k lol

A used one with similar miles, but a clean title runs like... what..... $10K - $11K?

I wouldn't do it.

Hell, no, I wouldn't do it. A few comments:

a) Looks like the previous owner spun out, as AP1s are wont to do when given too much power in turns.
b) Even though the rear took the brunt of the impact, the front end bodywork looks in dismal shape. You want to look for frame damage before you place a bid on that puppy.
c) Airbags are expensive.
d) The trannys on the S2K are pretty solid. You hear mostly about rear diffs being broken, but that's usually because of abuse (too many bad launches, etc.) There are guys on S2KI who have 150-170k on their S without much trouble. 82k miles is nothing if the car is properly maintained, but that's too many for me.

I would save my pennies for a similar vintage AP1....with high miles, it'll be around $10k-12k.

Well, i am going to look at it check it next week and see what's all damaged. But guys, it also depends how bad the car is hit, thats the reason ur buddy is still piecing it together still, normally if the car was crashed like the train hit it, normally u going have alot problems with it even when u fix it. But like i said i am just going to use it as a weekend car. I know i can get one for 11k but the thing is i only have 6k saved up right now, and school is making me go broke too, it took me 1.5 yrs to save this 6k. I cant afford the payments now cuz of school and i also have another car, which i love, but i really want a s2k. If the frame is not damaged then i might go for it, but we dont know yet until i check it next week. Crazysellout, i am on my parents insurance, and they pay 780 for 3 cars, so that means i pay 300 for my CL-S, and its 03 coupe. I cant have my own insurance yet cuz i have too many tickets.

Alen, why do you come back every other month. I can catch your messed up picture taking any day. You have the same photobucket under your name. You know you are going to get caught. Give it up and go to a different forum.

Sounds like he needs to get his priorities straight.

1BadCL-S.....

If you only have 6K saved up, already have a car, are still in school, etc.... you really shouldn't be blowing all of your money on another car. Why? Well, let's see....

1) "school is making me go broke"
2) it took you "1.5 yrs to save this 6K"
3) if you blow all 6K, how are you going to pay for insurance on the CL-S and the s2k, plus other upcoming (and unexpected) expenses?

Finish up with school, get a job, save up, and then pick up an s2k then if you still want one.
