Selling car to a dealership
Selling car to a dealership
My friend is leaving the country for a long time so he needs to get rid of his car in a week. He knows he doesn't have time to sell it privately, so he's thinking about selling it to a dealership. We know he's not going to get much but what is the best way to sell a car to a dealership?
If anyone has prior experience, please give me some input.
btw, his car is a Pontiac of which he bought used from Pontiac dealership 2 years ago. (no accident and he has the title)

carmax only pays ok money if they want to keep your car on their lot. last time my buddy took car there they tried to pay him under kbb wholesale. 1st check how much your trade is worth on kbb.com
Most places go by blackbook, but it will give you pretty good idea what it's worth. these cars sell fast, so there is no reason to give it away.
Ebay is good, like some said.

like everyone said before:
Carmax would be the first lot i'd hit. if you go to a normal dealership they'll rape you on trade-in. and it's really bad now it seems like you go by most car dealership they got used cars by the 100s and they almost cry when you trade in your old ride. most dealership when they don't "want" your old ride they "low-ball" you. which right now cause the economy and car industry slow as sap on a winter day. I'd avoid a dealership if at all possible.
but good luck to your homie where ever he goes.

Tell your buddy to just be patient and sell his car privately or on-line. I sold my 73 VW beetle for over twice what I paid for it on ebaymotors. Dealers will lowball the crap out of you and prob won't just buy a car from someone who isn't using it as a trade. They can get better prices from private dealer auctions so most won't bother unless your trading in.

Well, I called around and dealerships do buy used cars. They didn't give me exact quote so I will have to take a trip.
and unfortunately, there's no carmax around here
