Is SeaFoam good or bad to use right before a smog Check?

I have to do my smog check, I have a 99 TL and am not sure how long before I have smog issues in a car, 12 years have passed and am worried that I might now begin to have smog issues and want to counter that with a clean motor. Is SeaFoam hurtful in a smog process? Can I have my smog checked if I have SeaFoam in my gas tank or is it like pissing dirty in a drug test? Will SeaFoam help my chances of being cleaner or does it not affect that part of the smog-capture process? Is there anything that helps besides this or am I trippin and my car should still be more that easily capable of passing a smog test?

Also not quite sure about the SeaFoam process I have read people just put it in the gas tank and some that put it into the motor via vacuum hose and then in the gas tank?

Can anyone with knowledge on the topic please help me,I'm a bit confused as to where I stand. Thank You before-hand.

Also I have a Innova 3100e scanner that has a smog-ready test/check of some sorts , If someone knows how to acquire, read and discern that info please help. Thankyou all again.

do you have a CEL? if you don't, i don't see why you would think your emissions are off in the first place...

usually seafoam should be done in conjunction with a major service interval (i.e.. 60k or 90k mi service) seafoam in your gas tank should help absorb any moisture in your gas or contaminants in the line to help the fuel delivery... in your pvc valve, it should help to clean out any carbon buildup in your intake manifold or on the pistons which should produce alot of white smoke you can get rid of by going on a very aggressive high rpm highway run to blow it all out... then seafoam in your crankcase oil should help to loosen any sludge in the oil, which means you should change out the oil wthin 500 mi's... just follow the directions on the can and you shouldn't have any problems...

Don't just assume that car is going to fail. Just go and get the smog inspection done. That is the only way to find out whats going on with the car IMO. And don't use and seafoam right before going for smog inspection because that is going to bring a lot of smoke out of tail pipe and if technician see your car puffing out smoke, he's not even going to bother to run the test because that is instant fail.

How many miles on the car? I've seen cars with quarter million miles pass without any problem. Just go and get it done.

Smog guy here btw

Ok so a definite no before a smog, but a definite yes 500 miles before an oil change with a little high rev driving in the process. Is there a DIY with all three forms of SeaFoam Applications. Gas tank , vacuum and oil tank. I have never done it got my car with about 90k miles and currently have about 145k will one dose do or how will I know when enough is enough? Thanks everyone for the fast help, I am just gonna go do it then and see whats up.

The reason why I'm a bit sketchy on the whole pass or not thing is because I recently just for the first time opened up my manifold and did an Egr port and manifold/TB clean and it was scary filthy so when my smog came up ofcourse it made me wonder about how dirty or clogged other places might be including smog producing areas. Either way I'll know soon enough I guess.

Does any one know about checking my car with my scanner to see if I'm smog ready? Is that just a stupid way of say I don't have any CEL's on? or does it actually check live reading on the computer to detect any irregularities?

If you've already done that then there shouldn't be anything to worry about. That is the only issue you may run into. There shouldn't be any problem.

About the scanner part, most places should be able to do the OBD2 monitors readiness test. Just go in and ask them about it. Since you car is 99, you can get away with 2 incomplete monitors. All 2000 and newer can only have 1 incomplete monitor. Anything above 2 is going to fail the smog inspection for 2000 and newer.

Ok, I feel pretty good about it now, that means I would have failed had I not done the egr cleaning because it was def making my CEL go on. Thanks

If it was triggering your check engine light then yeah it would've been a fail.

Go to the 2g TL section and you will find tons of posts on seafoam with smog and egr details. quite a few people recently have gone through similar situations with their tl.

One of my instructors told me when he used Seafoam, it reduced NOx considerably. It still didn't pass Smog though.
