6000 miles...in a GT3
I don't do this often...but this is the most amazing thread I've come across in a looong time.
Long story short, a guy on another forum I'm on, packed up his GT3 and headed west.
DFW - LA - Seattle - snake back across the country through Colorado and back to DFW.
Its hard not to say "forum-douche" words like epic, but damn...this is the closest I've been.

Nice post. It reminds me of the road trip I took with my best friends after I finished under-grad back in the end of 2002. NY to SF (total 3 weeks). Travelled south thru ATL and across the bottom half of the US (I-10), stopped off in New Orleans, Houston, San Antonio, Arizona. Drove straight thru New Mexico (nothing to see).
Once we got to Cali, we started down in San Diego and worked our way up (LA to SF). Travelled on parts of PCH on the way up. On the way back we stopped off in Vegas and took I-40 back across the US with various stops.
The only difference between us and this guy was we had a Toyota Sienna
Great memories. If anyone ever gets the time in their life to do a cross-country trip, I highly recommend it. You meet people from all walks of life and learn alot about yourself.
I hope to do the upper half of the US someday.
I've been to California twice after that and had a chance to take PCH down all the way for SF to San Diego. It's a lot longer drive than taking the 5 down but so worth it.
Here are 2 pics from my last summer trip to Cali
Your view pretty much all the way down PCH

Waterfall we found near Big Sur

I would love to go on one of these? The only thing I'm worried about is getting a speeding ticket. I have a radar detector, but I still managed to get a speeding ticket once on I-90 from a freaking airplane.
And yes, I know I can just not speed, but I can't imagine driving a long distance without speeding. It'd be too long/boring

cross country roadtrips are highly recommended. Have been on 3 of them with the tsx. Would love to drive the oregon coast again but not in the rain. We were lucky when we were in Seattle-it was sunny the whole time.
This is so tempting, work has been slow for last few weeks and it will continue like this for next month or so because DMV is not sending out renewal notices. Sounds like good time and weather for road trip. Whats there to do in Oregon?
I do a cross-country drive every year, from CLE to Colorado (1350 miles each way), to see my folks. In fact, I just got back a few days ago from doing so. The original plan was to drive my CTS-V cross-country this year, but the wife felt that the passenger seat was too uncomfortable. We therefore took the Pilot (aka Mommymobile). I was in mild emotional pain the whole trip even though I saved mad money on gas vs. taking the V.
I would take a GT3 across the country any day of the week, any week of the year.

The most recent "cross-country" would be my trek from here to Vancouver, Seattle, and then back in the FX last summer.
Going through the Canadian Rockies and parts of British Columbia was a terrific experience.

I'd love to take a trip like this. I get two 3 week vacations a year and I really would like to take a trip like this but I wouldn't want to do it by myself. I would like to share the experience and memories with someone else and my wife doesn't like driving that much. I'd do it in my GT-R but the wife's QX would be 10x as comfortable.
Cool thread, thanks for sharing!
There's nothing quite like it! I'll be doing one next month. Phoenix Arizona to Morristown New Jersey and back, in my Legend coupe (currently 477,000 miles). I'll probably do a similar thread. My car's not as cool as the Porsche, but I'll make sure the photos are great.

From: Murrieta CA.. but Brooklyn is in the soul..
A friend and I drove from Brooklyn, NY to San Diego twice..... the 1st time we did it, it took only 26 hours. we drove non stop, stopping only for gas and food which were at the same time.... so much fun now that I look back at it.
Hey thanks for posting. That was such a cool read. 997.1 gt3 is so rough and clutch is so heavy his left leg must be twice size of his right after that roadtrip. I can drive across my island in 1 hour lol. I loved doing road trips when I was in school from Palo Alto down to Santa Barbara to visit my sis and surfing shell beach, morro bay, el capitan. I loved seeing those pics of half moon bay, surfing montara and lindamar. Driving up to the Russian river and taking kayaks down with pony kegs. That read was so nostalgic, made my day.
