If you have TL as a track
Turismo > GTR as a DD

You, Steven, may be Matt too

There are areas of this country where GT-Rs are not as common as Honda Civics.

It's one of the benefits of being a white guy in his 40s ... I'm not going to car meets with 800 Asian guys all driving the same car

Yup, exactly
Mentioned it before comparing the cars
That's why I am in between of GTR and Maserati for swoosh
He won't get the "badge" of Asian with GTR in that location

Yes when you factor in everything. A GT-R's maintenance is scary for a Nissan, but the Gran Turismo at the end of the day, has a Ferrari-developed V8 & thus, will require Ferrari-priced maintenance.

The only thing the GT has over the GT-R is looks & sound. That's not to say you can't DD a GT as a client of ours dailys her Quattroporte, but it's going to be more expensive doing so in the long run.

That being said, if I had the available funds to run either one without worry of breaking the bank, I'd shoot for the Gran Turismo every time.

Gran Turismo that fun to drive? I just assumed it was bought mostly for the sex appeal it has.

Someee sayyyyy, he is....
what am I saying

Sometimes I think Turismo will be much fun to drive as daily
That stance, exhaust and interior feeling, quality...

GTR might only give fun at track... I mean when you compare to an Maserati

GTR IS a track car we knoe for sure..atleast 51% of it
Not most of the track cars are fun as DD
and on the other side as a DD I mean it's a Nissan comparing to Maserati

Considering Anil has totally stripped his TL to make it faster, I think the GT-R would be a better pick for him. I do love the GranTurismo though

so I was leaving work yesterday and saw a white GT parked in the lot and i cudnt stop drooling !!!

well the good thing is we narrowed it down to 2 cars....GT and GTR....

GTR advantages = lower maintenance, AWD, puts the power down very very well, for 70K you can get 600hp
GT advantages = looks SEXY, a definite head turner, sounds SICK, for 70K it would be a lightly used GT

GTR you can hit the track as well to see what its got, i doubt i will do that with the GT....

Put this in your mind too

GTR= Will make your pockets empty, that car without modding is nothing, I mean forget that, you WILL want to mod that car anyways + looking to it as track car

But you don't do track all the time, don't forget that
I mean giving away that much money for a track car....

PLUS

GT = Will be as it is, not much to mod it, so no putting money on that car, you will save money
and
You already did put money on TL to make it track

--------

Of course mod the hell out of a GTR and it'll be devil, like nothing else around

Meko, i understand....but wudnt you wanna see how quick the car does a quarter mile....or wudnt you wanna see how it goes around a track? am not saying i will push the limits but still....

GTR = 60K + 8K for Ams 6 (if i remember right) and that bring you to 68K plus 2K for couple other things and you have a SICK ASS car

GT = 65K and 5K for couple other mods....and since it snows like balls here in KS, you can def take the GTR out for a spin amidst the winter

That's right but as long as you don't push the car's limit, you could take GT to track to...quarter etc.

You're right GTR I guess might be cheaper to go with + easy maintance

but, what are the MPGs on them? Did you check
that might play big role
I guess GTR wins with that too right? V6 engine

+2 on GTR
+0 on GT

Caterham Superlight R500
$67k
0-60 in 2.8 seconds
1/4 mile in 11.5 seconds
Carve canyons? It dices and sautés them
To me, its gorgeous

But, the R500 runs on race gas. The CSR nearly matches those numbers for $71k and has a higher top speed.

None of the cars from the first list are going to do that; the ZR1 & GT500 are quick in the 0-60, but they're closer to 12 second cars than 11. That's supercar numbers & supercars start at 6 figures. Even the ZR1 & SRT Viper take perfectly timed launches to reach those figures.

But, I picked the Boxster S because it meets the canyon carver & looks category in a perfect 10. This car has won multiple driver's car awards for a reason. An extra $10K left over new will get this car into the 4 second 0-60 range & that's plenty fast.

The 2nd category is too diverse; anything can be built fast for $70K if we're digging through the used market, though I think an 11-second Elise would be pushing the boundaries.
Z06 runs 11.5 @ 127 bone stock... ZR1 will do 11.1 @ 131 or so... both do require some knowledge and/or help with launching skills but the fact remains.... a GT-R can easily run 11's bone stock with launch control...

Morgan...I knew you would come in here with something interesting....I was looking into the Ariel Atom but I dont think I will enjoy that as much as daily driver....similarly with the BAC and R500....

I am def thinking of building the TL as a DD as well as a track car....and just keeping the GTR/GT as a weekend car/exotic....

OR return the TL to semi stock and DD and get a S2000/BRZ and make that a track car?

hmm....

Steven, someday I sure will.....but my actually dream car is the 458 Italia...the GTR is just a cheaper, more affordable option

A TL cannot be a capable track car while simultaneously being a daily driver.

Return the TL to semi stock, get the GTR, and build the hell out of it. With the upgrade kits that are available for it, it could easily double as your track car and weekend joy ride.

^^^ I dont haz that much monies....if TL goes to semi stock, and if I have to build a car, it will be the S2000/BRZ/350 or 370z....something which I can buy for ~15K....

For $70K, most are not going to be lightly used. Most push over 20,000 miles & by that point, the car has gone through 2 service intervals. That budget will also get you mainly in 2008/early 2009 cars & the warranty is up unless you happen to find one where the owner bought a 5 year deal.

So couple the 20,000+ mile odo, & most 2008/2009MYs about to go out of warranty, the moment you hit 36,000 miles or 2 years after its last interval, you're looking at a $2,000+ bill for maintenance since the cars under warranty still ran $1,600 on average for a 12,000/24 month interval. That doesn't include all the regular maintenance you may need, either.

If you're after a GT, I'd highly suggest upping the budget to $80-85K & buying one just over 12,000 miles. That should place you in a 2009MY easily & the car will have just gone through its first big service.

GT = 65K and 5K for couple other mods....and since it snows like balls here in KS, you can def take the GTR out for a spin amidst the winter
What kind of mods would you plan on doing? $5K can do subtle mods easily, but performance wise, that'll net a performance chip & Drive-by-wire enhancement module.
A full exhaust will run $6K+. Larini's is $7,800 starting for all 3 parts. These through FormulaDynamics, though.

There is Novitec, but they carry a ridiculously high premium for their parts.

Well...
If you don't want to keep the TL as it is
What else difference will it make to turn it to DD??
Seats? AC?
You still have the AC off the car?

I guess not much of difference, am I right?
Get the GTR, car you wanted the most (that you could afford)
You can't take off your hand from modding, so nice car to mod.
+
It's an AWD <---+ That pulled me a lot
+
You know the TL on track, don't you want to take step on Track experience. You do. You won't stay away from track, am I right?
+
Low maintance (some guy up there talked about how expensive it is for Mazzeratti) lazy to scroll-up
+
GTR is cheaper and probably cheap to mod too. Nissan dude
+
GTR better on gas as well
=
What the hell are you waiting for

-------------------------------

That GTR looks like it's plastidipped
Whole car
Look at the glare
and they have exact same color if I am not wrong

Anyways came out nice but I like white better
I am not a fan of CF trunk or black whatever but 50/50 for GTR, not sure yet
Rims eeh not good
I like spoiler on GTR but putting difusers at the bottom gave a complete look with out a wing spoiler. Looks nice

In Istanbul, those black pieces at the bottom are color match with the body and looks good too.
I would've plastidipped or whatever painted them too
Leave the diffusers or extra stuff you put in front black or CF whatever they are

Damn dude get a GTR so we could talk about modding

Incorrect. The cheapest catback I've seen is $2k and some go up to around $5700. Intakes are $500+ and intake manifolds are $1100+.

Yeah it's a Nissan but you've gotta remember it's a $90k performance-oriented Nissan.

there is nothing "cheap" about the GT-R.

The Maserati has a Ferrari engine along with other Ferrari parts. They aren't cheap to maintain/fix/replace.
